Location: Stevens Point, WI | Kevin Merrill of Pierre, SD brought 16-05 pounds of walleyes to the scales on Day 1 of the 2010 FLW Walleye Championship giving him the lead by just over two pounds. Merrill was one of just a handful of anglers lucky enough to put two "overs" in the well this afternoon.
Local favorite Pro Brian Brosdahl and Pro Terry Filkens both weighed 14-01 pounds, placing them in a tie for second place. Pat Byle is in third place with 13-14 pounds while Scott Steil holds down the fifth spot with 13-06 pounds.
Many pros mentioned that the fishing is good and the big fish are being caught, but many feel fish are transitioning to more fall like patterns, so fish can be found in numerous areas using numerous tactics to catch them. Many have opted for the livebait rig and big minnows in deep water.
The weather was definitely the talk for tomorrow with 80% chance of rain and temps in the 50's and winds in the 20 mph range out of the ENE.
