| when you guys troll your reef runners do you catch alot of other fish besides walleyes,like muskies,bass,big crappies,pike.How well do they work on eyes,is there a better time of year troll them,I fish muskies most of the time but jig for eyes on castle rock and petenwell when I do fish for eyes. |

Location: LaCrosse, WI | Depends which version of reef runner. The stickbait style is typically better for colder water and the rip shads or deep little rippers are more of a warm water bait.
Reef runner baits are great, but I wouldn't recommend them for somebody brand new into trolling. I'd start with baits that are a little easier to tune. For those bodies of water I like Flicker Shads or shad raps late spring into mid fall. Junior Thundersticks or original Rapalas would be my bait of choice in sub 45 degree water (unless in the river above petenwell I use shad type baits in cold water there). |

| On Lake Erie when the water temperature is in the fifties or lower, I am in the group which says, "Reef Runners rule!" If you've learned how to fish, you can also learn the technique for tuning one. I had a few awesome days this past Oct/Nov with some fine walleyes caught on full size RR's. (the 900's) I also washed a few Deep TailDancers (TD11's)
No comparison even though I have caught walleyes on TD11's in prior years. |
