One of the lakes I like to fish in Ontario is a deep and very clear trout lake. It is not much of a numbers lake but does produce some big fish. In July and August I can find walleyes on the mid lake reefs. In June however, I cannot catch a walleye for the life of me. I am trying to figure out where those big females go after they spawn and before they get active out in the main lake. I think one spot the fish might go is into a large bay (150 to 200 acres). The bay gets about 30 ft deep and does hold fish throughout the year. The main reason I am hesitant to look for big walleyes in this bay is that to get in there the fish would have to go through a fairly narrow channel that is about 30 ft wide, 8-10 ft deep, and maybe 40 yards long. Of course I won’t know for sure until I work the bay hard this June but is it logical to think big walleyes would migrate from their spawning area and all the way into this bay for about 6 weeks until they start to show up on the mid lake reefs? As I type this I am beginning to think the obvious answer is yes, but does anyone have some feedback for me. Thanks.

might be suspended off any drop offs... baitfish? post spawn can be difficult... draw a line between spawning sites and summer sites... I'm guessing your answer is in between... lots of places big girls are lost all summer. Don't show up again till mid sept.

There are some weeds back in the bay. There is also a big weedbed near the entrance to this bay.

It would be interesting to see where that bay is located at in relation to the spawning areas and the mid lake where you find them in the summer. Find where the food is at in June - the fish should be there. The channel sounds like it shouldn't prohibit their travel - especially if they are following migrating baitfish. I like Steve's question too!
