Jaybe and FishHinds had paid me for a river charter way last spring before I had my slip and fall accident. A walleye fishing trip was planed and then canceled because of my accident and surgery. Well, with a little prodding by Dave (FishHinds) I consented to transfer the walleye trip to a King Salmon River Casting trip. So we hastilly planed the trip for today, got up at 2:00 and 3:00am respectively, met in my driveway at 3:45am this morning and was casting on the river just prior to the official 7:00am daybreak time. Not seeing many cars at the ramp, I decided to motor upstream to a secret spot of mine that gets fished a lot, but only by people coming down river from the Indian Bridge launch. So I knew we had a good 3 hours (alone fishing window) before any drift boats would be showing up. It's a narrow little slot that funnels the Kings together as they run upstream. Kings hate being crowded and when they get forced into that position they get pissed. The more kings running up river, the more pissed they get. Bad for them, good for anybody casting. Neither Dave or Jaybe having much experience fishing for Kings, I gave both as much of a King River Casting overview as I could. Explaining what to expect and what to do on the river, while traveling in the truck to the river. And then again this morning on the river, I gave them helpfull instructions on just where exactly to cast and how to retrieve these T-Stick Juniors for the best results. And basically they did great. A few minor up-in-the tree snags and a couple serious stump snags, but not one lost a T-Stick junior today. Well, actually we did loose one but Jaybe actually snaged into it with his lure and got it back. So we anchored up just a little ahead of and off to the side of this slot and on my 8th cast near the top of the slot BANG, about a 20 pounder. Lift anchor and slide down an incriment. BANG, Dave hits a big female of about 22 pounds. I pull anchor and slide down an incriment. BANG, Dave hits a Male about the same size. Pull anchor and slide down an incriment again. And BANG, Jaybe hits one that I know is pushing 24 pounds and change. We move 2 more times and Dave hooks 2 more in that same hole, but breaks his in-the-boat streak and looses both Kings after a nice fight. I'm leaving out of course the awesome details of the fight these monsters gave each of us in the tight confines of this river. Long story short. We fish a stretch about 40 yards long. Go 4 for 6. By 9:30 the sun is getting hot and stifles the bite. Still lots of fish moving through the holes, but they simply were not as aggressive. End the day 4 for 10 with the last 4 being simply half hearted strikes versus the savage Grabs they were making early in the morning. Quite the emotional roller coaster for me today. But thank you Jaybe and Dave for the company on the river today. And thank you Lord for allowing me to share the last 13 years of my life with the best Labradour in the world. He will be missed and always loved when ever I think of him. ![]() Edited by walleye express 9/1/2011 7:07 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Thank's for the thoughts and kind words Guys. It's been really tough since yesterday. We still have Otters wife Abby and one of Otters 12 pup offsprings named Bandit. He looks and acts exactly like his dad Otter. Notice both Otter and his sun Bandit got that same Walleye'd look in their eyes in the picture below. Abbys the sleepy one on the right and Bandit was only 9 months old then. I can't decide at this point rather his close resemblence to Otter is good or bad for my emotions right now. I also wonder if they know or sense that Otter is missing. They seem like they do by the way they are acting. Or maybe it's just the way me and the wife are acting right now. They say humans are the only creatures on earth that know they are going to die. Watching Otter this last week, when he stopped eating and would set alone in the backyard shade looking out at the field behind the house, that statement is hard to believe. This is going to take some time. Edited by walleye express 9/2/2011 10:44 AM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Sorry for the loss. I know its tough. But for a little up lifter, "like father like son", hope he fills you with as much joy as his father did.

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | The wife did some file searching last night to see if she could find some of the older pictures we took of Otter. Most are on 35mm film and in an album and are pictures I took of him right around and slightly before I bought my first digital camera. But she found these. One of them, 2 of Otters 12 pups lounging with me in the lazy boy prior to their 8 week old birthdays and their eventual sale to new owners. One of Bandit and me in the same chair after our decisions to keep him. And the last one with Otter and Bandit on their last hunt together. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dan! They say that pets wait for us in heaven - and I believe 'em! Rest in peace Otter! Thank's bud. I hope your right. Gonna be quit a group of pets I've loved over the years if that's true. Just hope I have enough admissions credits myself in the end to get into heaven. Also working on getting a new sled for this winter Tommy. I'll be calling you when the ice is safe and I find the walleyes. ![]() Edited by walleye express 9/8/2011 8:15 PM
