 Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Tom. Admittedly, I have not fished Munoscong Bay for years. But I'll chime in here because we used to fish this Bay 3 to 5 times a summer when growing up and 2 or 3 times during the ice fishing season with my dad before his early death in 1978. The fall/pre-ice walleye bite and the Musky fishing admittedly were not part of this planed experience, but be aware the Bay is very shallow in all places, except out near the St.Mary's river itself and has a clay bottom. 6 to 7 FOW in the bay will be the deep spots. We never targeted Muskys and the only Musky we ran into in all those years was one I caught by accident on an old, rusty Green/Black Ribbed River Runt when I was 8 years old. We were trolling for walleyes and dad allowed me to try this rusty, old plug because I had lost 3 or 4 harness rigs in short order, that back then were .75 each and put a strain on dads overall weekend budget. This was in 1960. The Musky was 49 inches long and weighed in the high 30's if I remember correctly. We committed the ultimate modern "Musky Fishermen's" crime and kept and ate the fish. The smallmouth bass fishing must be new, because I cannot remember ever catching one on the bay. There are a few small coves around the bay that are weed filled and always held some nice pike. The ones near the mouth of the Munoscong River were the ones we concentrated on during the early ice seasons with tip-ups for big pike and we always did well. Jumbo perch were also targeted and caught during our late season Late February/Early March/ last ice trips, fishing very near cattails and the small depth depressions around the two islands on the bay. All good places (I think) to find both Musky's and Walleye looking to forage during any time of the year. Here's a few old pictures dating back to 1959 all the way to 1978, just a few weeks before dads heart attack and death. I think you'll fall in love with the place like we/I did even if you don't catch a lot of fish. Good luck.
