For those thinking about trying these for walleye. Alabama fishing rigs: Legal in Wisconsin? Wisconsin conservation wardens are fielding questions from anglers who wonder if Alabama Fishing Rigs are legal to use in this state. The answer is - it depends upon how you use it. The Alabama Fishing Rig (visit www.thealabamarig.com) involves one fishing line with five separate baits or lures attached, each with its own single hook. In the water, the rig simulates a small school of baitfish and is capable of catching multiple fish at one time. Wisconsin rules restrict anglers to no more than three hooks, three baits, or three lures. This means the rig would not be legal to use in Wisconsin if the angler has a separate hook, bait, or lure attached to each of the five wires as shown in advertisements and YouTube videos. However, it would be legal with no more than three hooks, baits, or lures attached to the rig. An angler could place hook-less spinners to the other two wires, if desired. Remember, though, with three hooks, baits, or lures attached it would be illegal to fish with any other lines at the same time. This type of fishing rig is different than using a single lure with multiple treble hooks designed to catch just one fish. The DNR considers largemouth bass, northern and musky type lures equipped with multiple hooks as a single hook, bait, or lure, just as it considers a treble hook a single hook for the purposes of the three-hook, three-bait, or three-lure restriction. The Alabama style rig is different in that it uses multiple, separate, one-hook lures, all attached to one line, each of which with the ability to catch a different fish. YouTube videos show anglers catching two and even three largemouth bass on this rig at the same time.

Member Posts: 67 | What if you only put a hook on one of the five lures connected to the Alabama rig?.. and on the other 4 you had bare spinners or plastics with no hooks? Would it then be legal to fish 3 total rods each with it's own Alabama rig and each rig with only one total hook? Guest, are you a conservation warden or someone who asked the question of a conservation warden and got and answer back? Thanks

A lot of charter captains run rigs with multiple willow leaf blades to create the appearance of a school of baitfish. The biggest difference is the extra hooks on the Alabama rig.

Or the Cowbells we run on Green Bay.
