Location: Rhinelander | 154 boats left Barto this morning under strange conditions for the MWC perennial season opener. Water levels are at pool average or a bit lower, and it's warm out there. The bite has been good, but has slowed the last couple days. The slower current has effected the fish movement at the spawn, so it's expected by many teams that a couple in the limit over 19 each day will cash a check. The first flight will return at 3 PM, and the second at 3:30. Watch for weigh in coverage to begin shortly after completion! WalleyeFIRST Tournament coverage is brought to you by Lund Boats! Location: Rhinelander | Dave, The bite is such that it will take a couple in the 18 to 19" range in each day's limit to cash a check, according to the anglers we interviewed this morning. Hard call, but I'd go with a river rat... | ||

Location: Rhinelander | Jeffery Evans and Benjamin Baune hold a pound and three quarter lead over second place Ahrens and Ahrens in what amounts to a shoot out at the 2012 Spring Valley MWC. One hundred eleven limits were weighed today, mostly Saugers, and the vast majority of the baskets weighed in at seven to ten pounds. Less than two pounds separate tenth to seventy fifth place. Any 'kicker' fish, walleye or sauger, can easily launch a team in the middle of the pack into first tomorrow if caught with an average four fish remained of cookie cutter saugers. Rain form the Chicago area caused runoff and dirtied up the water today, which is what most of the teams said caused the slowdown in the bite and disappearance of quality fish. Every technique possible seemed to be in play today, but trolling was employed by more anglers than usual according to the stage reports. Third place is held by Shimota and Stasney with 10.61. Fourth is Hausler and Clemmons with 10.52, and fifth is Richards and Miller with 10.52. Rounding out the top ten: 6- Pape & Pankowski 7- Kolb & Kopf 8-Lahr & Skarlis 9-Chenier & Chenier 10-Yohe & Brandt Morning coverage to begin about 8 am tomorrow.
