How does increasing the pitch affect the RPM at WOT?

Without getting into all the boring details, I can get to 5400 RPM with my current prop. I'd like to possibly try increasing the pitch (same dia), but I am wondering what that will do to the RPM's?

I am guessing it would slow them down a bit?

OK, after a little research I see that yes, more pitch will slow it down.

Currently running: 14" x 19 @ 5400 (5500 max). With full load, it still has a good hole shot, 41-42 mph top end.
Considering: 13.2" x 21
Any thoughts on how those blades would compare? Do you think the 13.2 x 21 would keep me under 5500?

Dave?

What motor? 2 or 4 stroke? Carbed or EFI or DFI?

Stainless or Aluminum prop?

3 or 4 blade?

\What are you trying to accomplish?

Increasing the pitch will drop the rpms @WOT.
It wiull slow your hole shot, too.

90 HP Johnson, 3 blade aluminum, 2 stroke.

I'm trying to go faster....I'm boat #14 in the Sheephead tournament and I need to get to my super secret spot in the mouth of the river first

I think I am just going to stick with the 14 x 19 and go to a stainless version....the 13.2 x 21 will destroy the hole shot and I don't think will give me much (if anything) more on the top end.

42 mph in a 90 HP glass boat with full gas, anchors and gear isn't too bad I guess.
