Have you checked out the Navionics Freshest Data update page to see cartography updates for your favorite lakes? Here is the link http://www.navionics.com/lakes/LakeU...Keywords=reset Attached is an example of a before and after on Minnewaska in MN and Petenwell in WI. So if you have a Navionics chip and it qualifies for the Freshest Data program check it and update! Or are looking at getting a new map chip its like buying a new chip every time you update!

Does the unit the new chip in going into make a difference?

For example I've got an older Lowrance unit - X-25?
