The Merc 225 block is a solid build. Should be a great motor.

Yep agree with Steve, if you have any questions on how it has been run take it to a Merc dealer and have them run a history report on it.

I have a 07 225 pro on my 202 Triton. What would you like to know? easy on gas if you stay around 3500RPM's will suck LOTS of fuel at WOT!! Never have had a problem with it....Yet! Just like anything you buy eventally something may break or fale from age and use. been a solid reliable motor thus far!

My opinion after recent eventswith my opti leads me to toward never owning another. I have a 2008 with 176 hours on it, and just spent $1400 after the compressor failed. Since it was out of warranty, merc did not stand behind their factory defective part. (determined by the merc mechanic).
I did, and do, love how the optis run and perform, just be prepared to shell out big cash anytime something breaks, and from my research they WILL break.

I have 2 friends that have experienced the issue with compressors on OPTI's and same result on paying for it. It seems like at some hour it happens. As an OPTI owner I'm not looking forward to that hour......

A five year old motor isn't under warranty unless extra warranty is purchased, and outboard companies do not extend them because a mechanic tells a customer a 5 year old part is 'defective'.

Some companies are running longer warranties now, I've seen specials and extended warranties that go 6 years. Once the engine is out of warranty, it's a possible money pit no matter the brand.

It's 2013 in the engine world already.

My 2008 OPTI came with a 5 year warranty, and I didn't pay extra for it. Don't know about years before or after.

Yes, Mercury typically has a deal if you buy before March or April 30 each year and you can get the extra two years free or like $200. Guessing you got that deal or they ran the deal longer in 2008. They were running that for a number of years in springtime.
