When are they coming out with something that's affordable for the average fisherman?

Member Posts: 197 | Kirt,my HDS 8 is great but the size of the numbers on water depths are pretty small for my old eyes. Any way I can change them? When I zoom in real fast they get bigger but then a couple seconds later they go back to real small.

Member Posts: 1991 | Trim yes you can configure the size of the data, its in the pages menu go to configuration and you will see a choice called size, small, medium and large. Scroll to the item you want to change the size of. I am going by memory pick large then enter.

Thanks Kirt! I see Lowrance has many options, as you typed, in my price range. Which of the units has the biggest bang for the buck; I just want it for accuracy in depths, temperatures, and fish arches. Also, looking for the ability to separate water clutter from arches, maintain bottom contact at 40 mph, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a color unit either. Unless it's easier to read during sunny days. Give me your choice opinion?

Member Posts: 1991 | Tell you what the new Downscan stuff is really cool. Target separation and the ability to separate fish from trees is awesome. The Elite 5 DSI is a sweet unit which has GPS the X unit doesn't have GPS, if you shop around you can do better on price this is retail http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder/Elite5xDSI-en-us.... Doc Samson has some great info on DownScan http://www.hightechfishing.com/hds.html http://www.hightechfishing.com/store/dvd_elite.html

Are all the units accurate in depth, temperature, and locating fish arches? Do all the units have the ability to separate the water clutter from fish arches, maintain bottom contact while crusing at 40 mph? Are the black and white units easy to read now a days?

Member Posts: 1991 | Yes to all if they are set up correctly. The 2D and the Downscan show fish differently, 2D will have the traditional arch DownScan is more of bright spot Doc's website has examples of each. Downscan target separation is better. For the price of the color go with it much easier to read. Here is a link with pictures comparing the 2 http://www.hightechfishing.com/downscan_2.html

Thank you very much Kirt! You took the doubt right out of me. One more question for you. Do the Lowrance X-67 units or Eagle Fish easy units have the horse power needed to maintain bottom contact at 40 mph if mounted correctly? Mine don't and I've adjusted the puck multiple times off the transom. Both units are 4-5 years old and I bought them new.
