I wonder if thats why you didn't see any National Guard wraps this past season? Sign of what was coming?

Kirt, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. In past years boats went unwrapped because they left the factory before they were able to get them wrapped due to production or when the boats get picked up/delivered to anglers. The bass boats get priority since their season starts in January. I can think of a couple instances over the years where wraps didn't make it on the walleye rigs.

Nice article.

I'm pretty anxious to find out what the deal is. I sure hope it's the same pro/co-angler format.

Ted Takasaki just posted this on his Facebook page. Looks like change is on the horizon indeed.

"We just finished up the rules meeting a bit ago. We received some major news tonight. FLW will no longer run walleye tournaments in the future. A new organization headed by Ranger will run profesional walleye tournaments in 2013."

The tentative schedule and information for the Cabela's National Walleye Tour.

April 26-27 Red Wing, MN - Mississippi River
June 14-15 Port Clinton, OH - Lake Erie
July 26-27 Sturgeon Bay, WI - Green Bay
September 12-14 Championship Devils Lake, ND

Ranger and perhaps partner brands/Evinrude are major sponsors.
Entry Fees similar to FLW
Payouts to 30% of the field
Payouts rumored to be partially cash, partially product, and are respectable
TV Coverage
Not an 'owners circuit', Pros are rumored to be able to wear sponsor clothing the entire event.

As the facts are firmed up, we'll post more.

Hopefully they change the Green Bay launch sight. That far north has been proven the last two years to be not going that early in the year.

I am going to assume they have not actually filed for permits and been approved as of yet for all the locations like Sturgeon Bay. I would be very surprised if that location does not change. The Sturgeon Bay area has never been too willing to allow a big tournament of any kind launch from up there in the peak of their tourism season. I could be wrong and hope they can break some ground and possibly open the door (pardon the pun) for future events up there. It is a great community and area and the fishing opportunities are awesome as most of us know.

Actually the Sturgeon Bay permit is very solid. The chamber of commerce would love more tournaments up there especially during tourist season, as is all government... times are tight and anything that can boost local economy is welcome.

Sturgeon bay all but kicked tournaments out of there in the late 90's, early 2000's. We used to have 100 boat WWA events up there. NOW THEY WANT OUR MONEY? Oconto is the one that opened there arms and welcomed us in and it is a great central location for events. They oughta' rethink that venue. I donot see the event even listed on the DNR website as of yet. Not to sure what is meant by very solid.

This event has been a little 'off' so far as far as viewership. Is it hunting, fishing, and Fall activities, or the impact of the announcement, or a combination? We'll know after everyone gets back to work Monday and fires up WalleyeFIRST for a look see.
