I learned that one needs to actually GO FISHING to catch any walleyes.

I learned that spinner rigs and crawlers trolled catch walleyes.

Winnebago is a rough SOB sometimes.

What did you learn in 2003?

Steve.

The majority of walleyes caught by me this past Saginaw Bay (SB) summer season, were caught on two techniques I both resisted over the years and thought I'd never be using, especially on my S.B. charters. That is, Spoons and Meat.

But after using the spoon slider idea above my cranks, a whole new program and technique evolution opened up for me. I even refined the idea to enclude a spoon crawler harness rig I delveloped and refined to work in conjuntion with my faster trolling speeds, up to 3.5 mph. This allowed me to use both cranks and harnesses together on the same line and know they were both working together efficiently.

Have even refined them moreso over this falls break period, and can't wait to get the new ones wet this comming open water season to see if I improved on the original idea, as only the fish are the final determining factor.

And Rick, did you get my e-mail to you?

I'd have to say that locating "slot" fish was the best thing for me this year. If anyone here does not already know, my home waters, Mille Lacs, has some very tight restrictions about what size fish you can keep. In 2002 we had a bonaza fishing, and I had many customers say they loved catching all the large fish, but wish they had fish to take home. So this year I devoted my efforts to keeping on top of "slots". My slot ratio went up from about 10-12% in 2002 to about 65-70% this last year, and my customers are happy. Also, those "slots" paid nicely in a couple tournaments I fished this year.

I'd have to agree with most of you but I learned that there are too many ways to fish these beasts and not enough money to fill the tacklebox! Also I would have to say that the camera through the ice in Jan/Feb taught me more about jiggin in the spring and put a lot more fish in the boat!

I learned the following:

That there are a lot of fishermen that are much better at it than me that get skunked too.

Rich Stadler's boat is faster than seagulls.

Gobies like crawler harnesses.

When you take someone out to show them all of the fish you have been on for 3-5 days...they will not be there.

Color DOES make a difference.

AND...sometimes the way my ancestors used to catch walleyes, works better than any new fangled technique or bait out there.

Here's to a Great new year to all and wishing for open water again!

Dave

I spent more time trolling cranks, fishing suspended fish and meeting more great people.

Right Jason! And with you as witness, learned my new boat performed great in big waves.

Learned those top walleye tournament fisherman will treat you much different when your title changes from amateur, to pro.

Learned to harness my wild, excited emotions caused from entering a walleye tournament.

Learned that loyalty and honesty are hard to find (but I found some!) in walleye tournament fishing.

Learned there are many people who would go walleye fishing with me!

And finally, walleye fishing in itself is not the end game, but only a means, whereby one can gain friendships in its pursuit.

I learned that, without a doubt, the PWT is the MOST professional circuit on the walleye trail today. I, also, learned Rick, that you cannot trust everyone on your team. I re-learned how to fish with lead core and I, also. learned, that when the fish get finicky on LBDN, to downsize your program. Have a great winter and Rick, if you want to come down for a week-end of ice fishing on Saginaw Bay, let me know.

Alright Bo! Maybe the end of January. Somewhere in the trip I must get over and meet up with Dan (walleye express), and hopefully have Jack (JDLII) along for the ride.

Would be great to get fishing with you again, my friend!

I learned that the walleyes in Erie are that big, but don't taste that great.

That one duck ( female mallard) can eat 20 gobies, just cut the larger ones in half.

That comorats do die, by choking on to large of fish.

I can not catch a legal walleye on the Miss.River--- 11 years running.

There are walleyes and saugers in Ill. but they only have to be 14" to keep.

Rick Larson can catch walleyes if I take him to the right places.

Rick.

Whenever you come this way, let me know. Even if I'm on the Bay with clients during that time we can arrange something, even if it's a few hours at the Linwood Motel for a burger and brewskies.

I am still laughing Dave! I almost forgot, I will always carry a cop around with me just in case I get stopped by the DNR. "This is what we are going to do, we are going to go over to my buddies house and get a cushion.....and that will be just fine." Who says there is never a cop around when you need one. Now if you can just help me get the seagull guts off my boat!
P.S. Fish move, that is the way it goes. Don't lose any sleep over it.
