There's been a lot of chatter recently about The Walleye Federation and what type of effect it will have on the NTC and club tournaments.

I recently attended a monthly Sheboygan Walleye Club meeting and this topic dominated the evening. In order to qualify for the Cabelas NTC after 2013 you or your club will need to be a member of The Walleye Federation. The number of spots your club gets in the NTC is in direct relation to the number of boats you have in your events.

If a club desires more than 1-3 spots the members of the club, as I understand it, will need to join the WF and sign up for a "side pot" for the club event. This is handled seperate of the club specifically by TWF. In order for the "side pot" to be used they need at least 10 boats to enter. The "side pot" is paid back 100%. Each boat will pay a fee to enter both the tournament and the "side pot".

If I have something that is not quite right in my understanding of the rules and potential to qualify please correct me.

I'm hoping to hear from some of the organizers of TWF right here to explain these concepts and how things work.

I am reporting this without an opinion, as it interests me to see how many respond to this and how many are for/against these ideas. Have at it.......:)

Jayman,

Yes, I've read and, I think, I understand most of what's on their website. Now, I'm looking for opinions.

What do tournament fisherman think of this?

I think it is a start to a ranking system.

Too complicated for the regular Joe that doesn’t eat, breathe, poo tournament stuff and keep up on it. Another thing that people living on the outside of the tourney world won’t understand. I don’t even want to try to figure it out either. Too many got to do this don’t do that’s. Clubs gota do this and have that many boats. Yada Yada. K.I.S.S.

Here's my dilemma:
From the NTC Rules: No persons under age 12 may participate as participants in the NTC
From TWF: No age limit on TWF membership.
From ME:
No good reason given for not allowing a 10 year old to fish the NTC. Last reason given was that someone under 12 would not be able to pull someone from the water in an emergency. Hell, I know some adults that wouldn’t even be able to do this. Most 12 year olds probably wouldn’t either.
Why would I want to support the federation who supports the NTC who is not supporting youth fishing?
Kyle would be crushed if we made the NTC and he couldn’t fish it. I refuse to do that to him. Where’s all the support for youth fishing? How do you feel about this situation and thoughts on it?

I know you fish with your boys, as I did when they were growing. The deal here is the NTC is an adult function, it is NOT put on to be a kids event. It is held to be a NATIONAL championship. The AYA is a kids event. That is the way I see it. They support kids fishing, just not under 12 in this one. Sorry Bob. Not everyone gets to play before they are ready.

I accept the rule and will not worry about it any more as I have a choice not to join. Thanks for the input.

No hurt feelings here Bro! I understand some people would put their kids in harms way for a boat and $15K. I'm glad you know I am not one of them. I pulled out last year twice for that very reason. SWC Green Bay out of metro we left at 10 am due to storms. Didn't even fish Stone Quarry due to windy conditions. Been in worse but not with the kids. See you next month.
