Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Both our river and Bay fishery this year has been kinda weird. That huge amount of rain we had in April along with the cooler temps has changed the locations and moods of our walleyes this year. Places where and when we've been successfully catching post spawn walleyes these last few years have suddenly dried up. I've had only limited success using many of the tried and true methods this year. So today I went looking with everything and the kitchen sink. And sure enough, the sink finally caught us some nice fish. heres the story.
Left the ramp this morning at 8:30am. Had virtually every rod I owned in the boat rigged and ready to fish every technique I know of to try and locate and catch some fish. Looked for biting fish in a lot of places both in the river and on the Bay for 3 1/2 hours with my buddy Gatorbait. With virtually nothing but the night crawlers we bought this morning being kept cold in the cooler. Just prior to fishing our last spot the NE wind changed direction to dead North and from 11:30am till 2:00pm we caught one fish after the other. And a few were real DANDYS. Most of our fish came on Lead Core using Bombers. The first thing I had in my hands at the time. Ya, I know. Don't ask me to explain it. I just felt the urge to try it and the first one almost jerked the rod out of my hands. Jeff grabed the other core rod and the fun commenced.
