Much of the info in that artical comes from the first of several "round table discussions" the DNR has with the public throughout the state of Minnesota. In a couple weeks, there will be a meeting of the Mille Lacs Advisory Board, which is comprised of resort owners and guides around the lake, such as myself, and the state DNR, as well as the state's DNR Fisheries Biologists. At that time we will discuss several options. The discussions will "lend" to a decision by the state DNR (Department of Natural Resources). That decission, as well as any points the state DNR want to bring are brought to a meeting with the Native American DNR, and a resolution is agreed upon. This process has been mandated by the U.S. Supreme Court. The most serious point of contention revolves around the harvest. You have to understand, that Mille Lacs is the only water in the USA that has a native American's harvest during the spawn, and with the use of gill nets, on the spawning beds!! Any changes in the restrictions will be the result of an agreement between the state of Minnesota, and rhe Native American community signed on to the treaty, and with the approval of the U.S. Government. Those native American bands include 2 from Minnesota, and 6, I believe, from Wisconsin. So to say that the slot might be relaxed, is still only a slight possibility. We need to have that approved by several sources, including the Native American Communities which are signed onto that treaty, as well as all those biologists.

We can only hope that someday man will realize that only "Mothernature" can dictate those laws by which her resources can be controlled!

As more becomes known, I will report to you.

This is very interesting to watch.

There are so many different philosophies that must be considered. Just where is there any common ground? Why do the Tribes insist on netting walleyes? Only thought I have is maybe the Tribs are only netting these fish during the spawn as some type of envious rage to revenge for the past. Guess one can't have everything.

Oh well.., it is what it is. And Jack, I hope that somehow this can be worked out in the soontime, rather than later. Glad to get this information before it goes through the hands of publishers.
