Location: Rhinelander | Warmer temps and big winds out of the West/Northwest were the story today as the Pros hit the water on Devils Lake. The winds have been howling all week, but pulled a 180 last night, predictably helping some anglers and causing issues for others. Devils Lake is a HUGE body of water, covering over 200,000 acres, and the ever expanding waterway presents interesting challenges getting under bridges into some of the newer waters where the walleyes are reported to be heavier and longer.
Most of the Pros were not concerned with the forecast, but Mercury Pro Dan Plautz, who was running and gunning during the pre-fish, expressed concern the rough conditions will limit travel.
Lund Pros Mark Brumbaugh, Marianne Huskey, and Mike Gofron said they have some nice fish located, but are unsure what the weather and pressure will do to the bite. The system is LOADED with walleyes from 13" to 17", in fact so many it's a challenge is some areas getting through them to get to the winning bite.
The weigh in should be over and a full report posted for the field of 82 (give or take a couple, we haven't had confirmation of the field size yet) this early evening.
WalleyeFIRST coverage of the NWT is brought to you by Lund Boats and Mercury Outboards!
