Member Posts: 46 | I purchased a new boat with a lowrance hds 10 with insight on it. I'm not running a mapping card but I'm wondering if it's worth it or will it make much difference if I were to run a mapping card such as a navionics or lakemaster versus just the insight on the unit. I mostly fish the Winnebago chain and bay of green bay. Thanks for any input. Red | ||

Member Posts: 1991 | Insight mapping is basic contours and detail. Lakemaster is longer supporting Lowrance so unless you can find and older Lakemaster chip for Lowrance thats out. Navionics and the Lowrance Insight chip are your choices, you will will find newer data typically on Navionics. Go to the Navionics website and click on the Web App and you can preview the lakes you fish. Click on the Sonar Icon in lower left to get the SonarCharts view which is available on the Hotmaps Platinum or the Nav + chip. I would rec. the Nav+ for the big water areas. Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | This is Ironic. I just sold my brand new (used 1 time) 2013 Pro Insight chip that came with my new Lowrance HDS 5m yesterday to a friend for $40.00. Went to Franks Great Outdoors and bought the more familiar to me Navionics chip. I used the insight chip one day on a short fishing trip and did not like it. The depth and contour numbers seemed smaller and harder to read for these old eyes except when zoomed in more then I wanted, but we figured out that may have been due to the background color itself on the mapping. It also did not show some of the more popular and detailed text or features in color that I wanted to see and have become familiar with on my Great Lakes/Saginaw Bay chip using the Hot Spots Navionics. I also do not need all the waterways in all the different states that the insight chip contains. Not being a touring Pro, the lakes, rivers and waterways surrounding my own state is pretty much all I want and need. IMO Take that Research and Development money for the 20 states and the 3,000 different lakes and rivers and use it for making better detailed local mapping chips.
