Subject: Stier Leads Mobridge NWT

Location: Rhinelander
Storms are rolling through Mobridge offering lightning and heavy rains, but the field left Indian Creek despite the weather. The NWT gave the pros the option to stay in the landing area, but all left after the 7 AM start announcement.

All reports are the bite has been stellar, but mostly small fish. It seems the better quality walleyes along with the volume of baitfish, are still North, due to heavier water flow and the late Spring. Most of the pros said during interviews this morning that they either hadn't contacted any, or had caught very few 'overs' in prefish. There is a slot in place, and only two over 20". Even 'unders' that are larger than 15 to 16" seem to be rare.

Predictions are 8 pounds a day may cash a check. The weigh in is in down town Mobridge this afternoon. Stand by for a full report by about 6:30 PM.

WalleyeFIRST NWT coverage is brought to you by Lund Boats and Mercury Outboards!

Dan Stier brought a couple 'overs' to the scales each matched with perfect 'unders' to take the day one lead weighing in at 14.62. In second, Michigan's Josh Vanderweide bagged 12.20. Third was Wade While from Mobridge with 11.74. In fourth is Wisconsin's Jacob Lapine with 11.57, and rounding out the top five is Joe Carter weighing in 11.02.

The bite was varied with no single presentation ruling the day, and was significantly tougher after the storms for many of the pros. Some of the best weights came from almost in sight of Mobridge.

There was quite a bit of conversation on whether 'lucking into' an over was the difference between a low and high day one place. Some admitted that was exactly the case, and others actually had been having good success getting the two allowed overs in pre-fish.

Any truly big fish...and they are here...can make a huge difference tomorrow. Two could provide a win to someone as low as middle of the pack. There may be some dramatic changes in the leaderboard when all the weights are in tomorrow.
