Location: Rhinelander | Bruce "Doctor Sonar" Samson & Tom Weihrauch won the AIM Weekend Walleye Series event on Leech Lake Sunday with 35.07 pounds. The pair said they had a good feeling about the event when they saw the weather forecast. "We caught two in the morning, the wind picked up and we headed toward Pelican Island." said Bruce "In the morning it was Red Tails, in the afternoon it was slip-bobbers & leeches, I love slip bobbers in 6 feet of water. When the wind blows, I find shallow fish, because they are winning fish.
Bruce's partner Tom added; "Bruce and I have been fishing together for a long time. It's the type of thing you really have to believe in. We were fishing where you could normally see the bottom. We both felt really good we were gonna get fish out there. Especially since there wasn't another boat in sight."
The team of Wolf & Wolf took 2nd with 27.86 pounds. They said they had engine trouble, but were able to use their trolling motor to muster up some big fish in deep water on crank baits. The team of Herd & Herd turned in another solid performance with a 3rd place finish with 27.16 pounds.
There were 82 boats in the one day event. Over $18,000 was paid out to the top 13 finishers. |
