He is officially in first place in the Shiver on the River contest, with the offical weight of 10.65 pounds. Mike Turek is his name and this was his first fish, yes fish, he caught in three years. As Grandpa used to say, "He's tickled Pink" over it. Not wanting him to overheat with the excitement, I reminded him of another saying I once heard. "You get lucky right before you die". That seemed to calm him down some. ![]() I'll be posting a picture of Mikes walleye this afternoon on my photo gallery once I get it. Taking my expensive digital out in this weather the last couple weeks has not been part of the game plan. As another side note. Before I get to many people heading out on the Bay with excitement. They've predicted up to 10 inches of new snow in the next two days, along with NNE winds 20 to 30 MPH. So only God knows what the access points will look and act like after this. This may be the best/worst winter for fishing we've had in a while.

He's in first place as of right now all right, but he's lost some weight already. His official Gander Mountain/Weign in headquarters weight was 10.61 pounds. Ya see how cold this walleye looks. We were just a little warmer than him when we got back in. Edited by walleye express 1/26/2004 2:01 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

That female would have been 2 to 3 pounds heavier by spring. My bud said she wasn't even showing signs of egg girth yet. Edited by walleye express 1/26/2004 3:06 PM

Being froze stiff as a board will give you that mounted look every time. I told Him to wrap that fish up in a wet pillow case and freeze it with the fins straight and flat because he's is having it mounted. But he's one of those guys who procrastinates and left it in the back of his pickup over night. Now, it's even to froze to clean and eat. If those fins or tail get frost bite, his trophy will be ruined. And to waste a beautiful walleye like that (if he does) even if it has been three years since he fished for anything, would not put him in good standing with me. And it would be a lot longer than three years before he'd be invited along again.. Edited by walleye express 1/27/2004 8:02 AM
