Member Posts: 376 Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Sitting here this snowy morning got me to thinking I need to decide what to hang on the back of the new 1710 Tiller. Evenrude is a strong contender but Suzuki is also a strong player in my mind. Several years back, a friend of mine had a 40 hp Suzuki on his boat and it was a good strong motor. But it was a 2 stroke. I am looking for info on the 90 and 115hp Suzuki 4 strokes, other than what I have found on the net and read in magazines. Does anyone here own one? What are your thoughts and opinions?

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Ralph, I don't own one but wanted to comment The Suzuki is the same engine used in all of the Johnson 4 strokes. So when you do your research you can check out the comments on Johnson 4 strokes as well. I would also suggest looking at the new Etec motors from Evinrude. IMHO if they deliver what they are promising, there will be no need for 4 strokes in the future. They have all of the same characteristics of the 4 strokes with the benefits of the 2 stroke. Check them out.

| Actually, the ETech 2 stroke will also outperform the 4 stroke in its strengths. The most intriguing of which is the ability for the engine to start without a battery. | |||

Member Posts: 376 Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Thanks for the quick info guys. The E Tech has my complete attention, but alas, it will not be out in a 115 tiller for this year... Thanks again.

Member Posts: 20 | I have a 2003 70Hp tiller Suzuki on an 1800 Pro V and I have been very pleased. I believe the 70 and the 90 are the same motor just different sized injectors. I had a 75Hp Mercury 2 stroke prior to the Suzuki and the Suzuki doesn't come out of the hole as good as the Mercury but it is faster on the top end with the exact same prop and the fuel mileage is amazing. Typically when I go to Canada for a week, I would use two full tanks of gas with the Mercury, and the Suzuki used 3/4 of a tank. It starts great, idles great, is very quite, the only problem I have with it is that at idle, my slowest trolling speed is about 1.8 mph. So I got a kicker to take care of that problem. Suzuki makes all of Johnson's 4 stroke motors also.
