Member Posts: 145 | I'm not talking trolling, but am I the only guy who just can't find a good, long spinning rod for throwing small to medium Shad Rap type crankbaits. You know what I mean, something with some decent backbone, can't be too whippy or too stiff. Throwing heavier or fatter cranks is no problem with a baitcaster and 14# Fireline, but I couldn't find a good spinning rod for the shad shaped or lighter cranks. Then I found out that I was looking in the wrong place. This year I picked up a couple of St Croixs in their Tidemaster In-Shore series. I guess they're made for bonefish, redfish...etc, but when I got a chance to check them out, I came home with a couple of 1-piece 8 footers. It says heavy power, fast action, but let me tell you....they were made for slinging Shadraps, Jr Thundersticks, etc. My neighbors thought that I was nuts (not a new concept) when they saw me out in the front yard last week. Had a SS1300 spooled with 14# Fireline and threw #5s from here to Timbuktu. It's got a nice long handle, so you can use both hands to cast saving on your wrists a whole lot of wear and tear. The back half of the rod is nice, solid backbone with a front half that sports a fast tip. If any of you guys are looking for some rods for throwing cranks and haven't found anything that fits the bill for you, take a look at the Tidemaster In-Shore line. There are some beautiful walleye rods there disguised as saltwater rods. Beaver

Member Posts: 67 Location: Sth/side Chicago | I will second the Tidemaster line of rods. I have a 6'6" heavy spinning that I use for bass and some light musky stuff. I've used the rod to cast stuff as small as a Baby 1 minus(1/4oz) and #7shad Raps up to stuff 1 1/2 oz. For cranks like you are mentioning I also use a 6'6" Pro=glass and a 6'6" Legend spinning rods.... I recently found a link to a website that had some great deals on Tidemasters, I'll see if I can find it and post it if I do.

Member Posts: 145 | Taylor's already talking about when we are going to go handlining again. She tells stories better than her ol' man. She tells them ..."NO! We REALLY pulled fish in with our bare hands!" Nobody believes her. Isn't a rod made or a rod needed for those rigs. :> See you soon.....I hope. Beaver Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Member Posts: 50 | You name the date and if I'm not book it's a DONE DEAL. But this time you really need to bring momma too. New batch of deer sticks are being done as we speak. This year I'm gonna make some mild ones so Taylor can indulge too. Hutch I lost that picture so hit me again with it and I'll have my guy put it up on the site. That oughta give the little one some bragging rights.
