It's a wonder somebody hasn't come out with a modification kit that includes all types/colors of tapes, dyes, O rings, Hooks and phelt pens. I even went so far back in the late 70's/early 80's when I was obsessed with Great Lakes salmon fishing, that I painted my fish shaped downrigger weight to look like a rainbow trout, with all the black dots and pink sides. This memory came back to me yesterday, when I took a special trip to Franks Great Outdoors (12 miles one way) just to buy some White Scale reflector tape, because my buddy hit 2 nice walleyes Monday night while in my shanty using it on a small Silver Sweedish Pimple. So I made the trip to buy the three strip pack ($1.49) just to cut two little slivers to adhere to the only two smaller pimples I have. So do I simply have to much time on my hands, or just obsessed with details that may or may not make the fish catching difference? And how many of you are reflector tape junkies? Well, you may have to much time on your hands (takes one to know one, hey?)! But you are hitting home runs with most of your postings including this one. Also my experiences fishing for Salmon and Trout mirrors yours. Color does matter and sometimes its a quirky shape that is what triggers those fish to strike. You can even save some money by buying spoons in bulk and taping them yourself. There is great satisfaction in catching fish on your own designed bait! Otherwise, haven't thought much about taping walleye crankbaits, maybe this thought of yours will stimulate some thinking of my own. ![]() Edited by Rick Larson 2/4/2004 9:46 AM | |||
