Beginning to think I needed to bath in a minnow tank to sweeten my smell to the fish. First went out with Risor last night on Winnebago, with no bites. All we saw was one walleye on the screen.
Good thing we stopped at his house before our futile attempt at fishing. I did manage to coax him out of the house with his huge Green Lake Trout he had caught a few years ago. He does have an interesting moment and hope he tells us the story in reply.
But the real highlight is I caught some fish tonight! Sure they were an average size, but beggars are not choosey. It was also a good thing Trap came along, because if I had caught another dozen fish, would have had more fish than he did!

Need bait to catch walleye (grunt)
Total catch: 13 Bluegills, 12 Crappie, 2 Yellow Bass. Those fillets sure look nice under the lights top the kitchen sink.

Nope, the bass was way to small to bite on our little panfish. Was quite the fight though, a tiny noodle rod with 3 pound test line.
As Trap fought it I kept hollering "BIG WALLEYE, BIG WALLEYE"! LOL! |

Location: Collins, WI | Yeah, that bass was fun. Rick's wife was wondering if he was fishing all the times he said he was so the pressure was on for him to bring some fish home. The fish out there aren't the biggest in size but they do provide entertainment for a couple hours after work during the week. My ice house is a nice quiet place to unwind with the comforts of home. I've been putting it out on some of the small lakes around home the last 10 years, and there has been hundreds upon hundreds of panfish brought up through the floor. The bluegills were hitting 75% better up until a week ago. Now if a person wants a 25 fish limit they might just have to stick it out for a bit after dark and cash in on the crappies. The bite starts in at 4:30 and goes til at least 7pm. My ice house is located in 18.1 feet of water right now. The lake does contain a large population of bluegills, some of which are in the 7 to 8 inch range but most run a bit shorter. Three weeks ago during that cold snap 50 fish afternoons were expected, but now that Rick visited I'm sure the bite will be tough! LOL |

Location: Neenah Wi | Ok Rick I'll tell the story again.It was a cold and windy morning.2 friends and I decided to hit Big Green for some lakers.This was only their 2nd time here.We did manage to get a few fish in the 15-19" range.My one buddy kept commenting on the cookie cutter size of the fish in Big Green.We fished for a few hours and then the snowstorm hit.It was snowing so hard we could hardly see the shoreline a hundred or so yards from shore.So we decided to hit the road.As we were pulling lines I looked over at my older style round frabil and it was bouncing up and down in the hole.I raced over and pulled slowly on the line as I had figured the fish was already hooked.I started to bring the fish up and after bringing it half way up the 120ft it decided it wanted no part of that and back down it went.This is the first time a laker had done this so then and there I knew it was a nicer fish.After a few runs I finally pulled it out of the hole and my friends and I were shocked at the size of the fish.I could then rub it in about the cookie cutter size of the fish in Big Green.I have caught some nicer fish in the summer out here on down riggers too.So it was no fluke.They have netted fish up to 40lbs.I sure would like to tangle with that one. |

Location: Berlin | Great story Risor. I have never fished for Lakers on Big Green or anywhere else for that matter through the ice. Sounds like a blast. Any chance of getting an outting together to fish there? Maybe I could even make it this time. What do you guys think? |

OK Trap, 2 pound test it is. And I really thought that fish was going to be a big walleye the way it bent that rod!
Risor, very good story telling! I can just imagine that tip-up jumping up over the hole. |
