Mine has to be Buckmaster's I just hate to watch these guy's come off as the ultimate hunter's by having most of the footage come from the stand, watching deer, and looking at Billy Bob shoulder his 30-06. I don't think I've ever seen them explain scouting, location, deer movement and what causes them to behave the way they do. There is a heck of a lot of hard work and time involved in good hunting. Sitting in the stand is only the benefit of your work, and time, and I don't feel they emphesize that at all. Then after the Kill the really hard work starts, field dressing, dragging, skinning, butchering. Wow, talk about only telling half the story.

Bassmaster, any of the saltwater tourney ones... any tournament fishing show(sorry to any pros here that may be featured on some). I know the guys work hard to do what they do in touney's, and it might help them some get some sponsor dollars, but for me there is nothing to gain by watching the show. I am not a fan of Mesikomers show(Simply Fishing), or any Jim Saric episode of a fishing show.. I know both these guys know their stuff, but just something about how they present their info... Now, if you titled this shows I like, whole different ballgame, Bill dance..especially any episode that focuses on bloopers.. midwest outdoors, outdoor notebook(at least it used to be when I could find it on tv), Debra Johanson's show was funny when it was on.. Jim Thompson outdoors...

Member Posts: 67 Location: Sth/side Chicago | Like I said, Bill for his bloopers shows. Midwest Outdoors has lots of good pieces on local fishing, lake michigan, the cooling lakes.. that is what I like about it. I agree that we don't need any more pieces on voyager houseboats.

Member Posts: 540 Location: Milw, WI | Bill Dance What more can you say , when you design the pond, and all of it cover in it you should know where the fish are holding in it. 90 percent of those ponds are owned and stocked by Him. And there is bass fishing like that to be had around here, same thing private ponds with limited fisherman.

Member Posts: 105 | What about Gillespe! How does anyone not hit him with a paddle or shove him down a hole? The show is not that bad if he would just shut up! He has good locations and good guides but after what 10 years on TV you would think there would be no need to to wake the dead with your screams of jubilation when the 50th 13 inch walleye of the day is caught. Member Posts: 376 Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Interesting topic, I think... As to Gillespie, have you ever met him? That is him on camera, no airs or pretend there. I wish every angler could have as much excitement as he does. Bill Dance, I find it entertaining, but I am also dissapointed that he stays on his private pond so much. By the way, wouldn't you like to have a pond like that on your property ![]() We, each of us, have some shows we don't care for. Not any one show makes everyone stand up and hug their tacklebox. Pro's and tournaments are a hot topic right now, and the sport is growing. Personally, that level of interst in tournaments both from the public and from businesses is good for the sport. However, it is very understandable that it is not everyone's cup of tea. The majority of the anglers that visit this site are most likely not tournament anglers. many who post on the boards here are though. But this highlights what is so great about fishing. There is something for everyone and anyone can enjoy from any level. But as to the topic of fishing shows, it is just like anything else, if a show rubs ya the wrong way, you can always find another. How about what shows do you like MOST and why? What reaches you, educates you and entertains you? I would rather focus on the positive and pleasureable than generate and focus on a lot of negative. If you want negative there are plenty of fishing sits where a guy can fire away.... Just some thoughts, IMHO... Edited by Nofish 2/26/2004 8:23 AM

You don't need to explain techniques, pattern movements or hunting strategies when your hunting on BIG BOBS game ranch half the time. In fact by doing so, you might let it slip out what that particular deers given name has been as they watched him reach trophy size over the years. I never liked those shows where they hunt game ranches out of gun towers and knew every bucks feeder box habbits. I honestly could not pose behind a deer who other customers couldn't shoot for lac of money to do so. The best trophy I ever took was one I spotted bedding down, put the sneak on, and shot in the neck in his bed with my muzzleloader on state land. He was a nine point, no monster, but a memory 10 times better than those (pay and kill pets) on those trophy ranches.

New User Posts: 2 | jerry, How can you say Bill Dance lacks skills? How can anybody say he lacks skill's because he fishes out of a farm pond? Here's some of his accomplishments: A member of the International Fishing Hall of Fame 23 National Bass Titles 8-Time Bass Master Classic Qualifier 3-Time B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year (1969,1974, 1977) 1986 National Freshwater Hall of Fame Biggest fish was a 13 lb. 2 oz. Largemouth Bass. I'd like to see anyone on this board do what he has done, give the man some credit. I think he deserves to have a laid back show that he can catch monster bass from HIS pond. I think that's pretty cool. shawn

Location: Rhinelander | Rick, What Ralph was trying to say I also posted on the Tundra thread. There are many ways to say something, both positively and negatively. If one chooses the negative, then one is 'stuck' there, defending an attack. If one chooses the positive, one can carefully point out the benefits of whatever point one wnats to promote, and will ALWAYS represent the higher ground. The "Yeah??? Well your mother wears Army Boots!!" answer to a reasonable challenge will never represent a clear line of thinking or a great idea. If one wants to listen to that sort of thing it's available out there, both on the web and in hard copy. An example might be the 'National Enquirer'. I don't HAVE a fishing show I like the least. I simply choose to view the ones I enjoy.

Member Posts: 158 Location: Upper Sandusky Ohio | I don't think Bill lacks talent, in fact I know he is a very accomplished angler, and I didn't mean for this to come across as a negative thread. I was actually seeking some answers to what turns people off on videos/T.V. shows. Although the Buckmaster stuff jerks me the wrong way for obvious reasons, I along with fellow member Lazy Eye have kicked the idea around of some filming for a project we wish not to reveal at this time.(Security reasons. ya know) ![]()

Member Posts: 158 Location: Upper Sandusky Ohio | It's funny you mention Carp. I was telling a guy at work tonight about wading the Sandusky River in July/August with a fly rod, and yellow corn. The closest way to discribe it is like wading for Bone Fish. You find the individual fish "mudding" and cast to them. What a ball!!!! :0 Edited by Trophy 2/26/2004 9:12 PM
