The color thread got me thinking about jig colors. What color do you favor under what conditions? Do you feel jig color makes a big difference?

Chartreuse, orange and then white are my favorite colors. If the bite is slow or off and I know there are fish in the system, on goes the Pink with white grub or twister and BANG, I'm back in action.

Big 'ole 4" transparent gold grub w/ gold and red flakes on either jig color did the trick! Year before that was plain lead jig and blue grub. Wouldn't touch it last year though.

Member Posts: 19 | I like chart blends during the spring on the Detroit River. Blue and white is also another good choice. Water clarity has alot to do with daily choices.

Member Posts: 12 Location: WI | I also favor the orange and chartreuse combos. However, last year I started using purple in water over 12 feet deep with any amount of stain. I had a lot of guys asking for that color when they bought jigs from me, and so I had to give them a try. I was quite happy with the results. A number of times when I couldn't get a hit on chartreuse and/or orange the purple came through for me. Give it a try this spring.

Member Posts: 376 Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Any color works as long as it is Gold.... LOL!! My jig boxes have every color Bait Rigs makes and a few they don't anymore....but day in and day out, in clearer water, tannic or gin clear, a gold plated jig fits the bill.... In dark water, Chartruese and Green or Chartruese and Orange are my favorites, though gold works there too. Muddy water finds hot colors on my line. BTW, my experience over time shows if you are using live bait, color doesn't seem to matter as much. In my experience that is....

Member Posts: 39 Location: Mt Prospect, IL | Rookie, White, chartreuse, and orange would all be good starters under most conditions. Colors are only as good as the location you put them. If you know there are fish in that particular hole (or wherever) and you can't muster a bite, try every color you own until you do. Experience breeds success. There are a million variables to calculate and color, size, and weight are just a few. Keep at it. See-rad
