Member Posts: 10 Location: chicago Illinois | Sound like a trip now would be a waste of time. I'll just wait for the whites to start running. Thanks for the info

A trip NOW would be an ice fishing trip. Ther's plenty of excellent fishing WAY before the white bass run. Keep in touch with my websites www.walleyeonthewolf.com and www.wolfrivercountry.com for information specific to the Wolf River area and the fishing. This could be a fantastic year for walleyes on the Wolf.

That's like looking in a crystal ball, can't forsee the future as to the best bite. Here area few parameters. Up run starts as soon as the ice leaves and is a great time to catch a trophy fish. Night fishing an inside bend is the bestchance at a big fish from the Wolf. Once we start getting some fresh water in to the system from rain and melt off up north we will start pulling more fish from the lower lakes and Lake Winnebago. This will historically continue towards the average spawning time in mid April. New London holds it's Big Whopper weekend "festival" on the Saturday closest to the 15th of April for this reason. When water pulls fish and we get a cool slow progression to the spawning temps, fishing can be very good prespawn. Low water means tough fishing pre spawn and lower numbers of fish in the system. POST spawn fishing is considered the "walleye run" and can continue until the majority of the males come back after hanging around the marshes for a bit after the females leave. Also if low water early in the cycle draws the first groups of big females all the way to the Shawano dam, (135 miles from Lake Winnebago by river), late high water levels can keep these fish in the Wolf system sometimes as late as JUNE. If you like trolling, Lake Poygan is a great bet for walleye AND white bass during May and June and the Wolf River has good walleye fishing ALL SUMMER. So many options to the best walleye fishing.
