I've been monitoring what's been happening on LAKE ERIE as far as the perch bite is concerned these last few weeks. The massive catches of some very decent perch has kept me Geeked to get out on my home waters of Saginaw Bay and start filling the freezer again with these tasty morsels, like I did last spring on the river. Some very HOT weather has stalled my enthusiasm this week, but the experimental SIDE OF ME has kept my interest high. And one of the things of interest I'm noticing is the peculiar rigs some of the more successful guys ARE using on Erie. I've experimented with fly Rigs for Walleyes, made popular on rivers on the West side of Lake Michigan with limited success. But that never deterred my search for the fisherman's Holy Grail before. So today I made A SPECIAL TRIP TO CHUCKYS Bait in Quanicassee to check out and buy a few perch Fly Rigs that he specially and specifically ordered to try out in our area. The rigs themselves are an all-in-one rig that you simply attach to your main line and add a sinker. But I've heard people complain that they get tangled because of the non-rigid direct tie-in with the rigs line. So I cut and modified them to be attached to Crappie spreaders. Below is pictures of both. Going to run one rod with fly rigs and the other with regular snelled, spinner bladed/beaded spinners. I'm hearing they catch perch 5 to 1 over the other rigs. We'll see.
