Everybody, I need some input from everyone here. I've told Trophy (Kevin) that I would be glad to help organize a meal for us at the "Get Together". I'm looking for some feed back and ideas about when and what you as a group want to do. I'm going down to Port Clinton for the RCL in April, and will use some of my time down there to make some contacts and see what I can arrange for us.

Here are some questions I need some ideas on;

1. Do we want to have a dinner function on Saturday, or Sunday? (Remember that "other" gathering's tourney is Saturday.)

2. Do we want to set up something at a restaurant, or something we do ourselves? (i.e. cookout, chili cook off, pot luck, fish fry, ect....)

3. How many people should I plan on making arrangments for? This is very important for negotiating with a restaurant, or City Parks Department, if that is what we decide to do.

I have volunteered to help Kevin with this aspect of the gathering since I've been in the restaurant industry for the better part of 32 years, and can maybe pull some strings others here might not have access to. I need to know which direction you want me to go with this before I start though, so please give it some thought, and let me know what your thoughts are.

1 point I want to offer for you to consider. If we hold our function on Sat. P.M., we will have a harder time reserving a spot for our function than if we do it on Sunday P.M.. There are not many restaurants in this country that won't go out of their way to bring in some extra business on a Sunday night, and they most likely will be willing to make us a good offer if we plan on Sunday.

Let me know what you want me to arrange!

Jack,

I'd be afraid that if you offered food late afternoon/early evening most people from out of town will decline. No one likes unloading their rigs around midnight and working the next day.

Dennis,

I fully understand what you are saying. I'm more or less looking for a consensus before I act on anything.

Another thing, since I am not on WC any more, and I am not going to invite them myself, if we decide to do Saturday night, I'll need everybodies help figuring how many from WC that aren't on this board will also be attending. I have no problem with having more people, but I just need an idea of how many we are talking about. I personally think the more the merrier!

Jack, at this point I would lean toward something on Saturday night. People fishing walleyecentrals tourny will be hungry after a day on the water. What to have is a good guess right now. People need to speak up as to what they would prefere. Personally I can eat a bowl of good chili, or prime rib, it doesn't matter to me.

Jack.

I'm thinking the best method is anything that don't involve you or anybody else putting out your personal money that you might not recuperate if the number of people saying they wil show does not. If at some point this gets as big or reliable as the oher groups get-together, going out on a monitary limb would be less risky. I think this first one could get away with a simple reservation at a decent size resturant, or better yet Bar, where everybody pays their own tab. That Bar in the Huron Parking lot has great food, entertainment and a good Captain friend of mine, Captain Morgan.

I go there to Fish not cook. Don't get me wrong, I helped fry fish at the WC gathering when they did it that way and had a blast. But If I had a choice of fishing for an extra hour or two or going and preparing food............. fishing wins!

Bring your own food and beverage sounds safest to me. Bring something to pass if you are so inclined! I keep hearing about these specialities that others have experienced on trips. Show case your talents if you are so inlclined, the rest just bring your own food.

Schedule a block of rooms at the Rivers Edge (800-947-3400). I think that's the one across the street from the establishment that Dan spoke of? See if they'll throw in a conference room for us to meet if you get a block of rooms.

Dan, IMHO, meeting at a bar is not an option for this function. It's too loud and you'll miss meeting most people. People bringing kids would be excluded from the event.

If we knew that the weather was going to cooperate we could just have it at the park associated with the Huron Launch/marina.

Dan,

My personal preference would be a restaurant/bar also. I'm hoping to set up something for us as a group, and see if I can get us a good deal. The biggest thing though is we need to figure out how many people so I can talk to the owner/manager of what ever restaurant we decide to go to and make sure they will hold a space for us. If we do it on Saturday night we will be booking on the busiest night of the week for most places, which might be a problem.

If we are 10-20 we should be able to walk into most places and get seperate tables of 4-8 people per table, and each person has a seperate check. If we are 40-60 people though it is a whole new ball game. We will need reservations, and I can promise you they will not do seperate checks for that many people.

Another consideration, would we want to have a fish fry? Maybe we can bring our own fish in and have them cook it for us???

That is why I'm trying to get some ideas on what everyone would like to do. I'm heading to Port Clinton April 22nd, then coming up to see you May 3rd when I'm done there, and as soon as I'm back in Minnesota, I'm gone guiding for the rest of the summer, and away from any computer for weeks on end. I want to get as much started as possible now, and follow up as time permits during the summer, and finalize our plans and set the reservations with the place in Aug.-Sept.

So, everybody please let me know what you want to do. I'd hate to see this turn into an "each man for himself" affair.

Jack.

Even though I'm retired, the bud I'll probably be going with has to be back to work on Monday. So staying to have a dinner Sunday night and socialize would not work for him/us. We usually fish Sunday Morning and split for home 12/1pm Sunday afternoon. But again, no man is an island. This isn't the Capt: Dan/Walleye First fun fishing outing. I'd just be happy to shake and few hands and put some faces to posters.

I think we have to all agree on a MC. He makes the rules and the program schedule. If you can make what has been set up great. If not, not hard or left out feelings.
