For those of you who might fish the Cabela's MWC, and didnt make the tournament out of Henderson Harbor a couple of weeks ago...thought I would pass along today's catch...fishing from 7 AM to Noon with son in law...5 walleye...10, 10.5, 10, 3, 3, and a bonus 10 pound brown trout....and also a 15 pound northern, which was released. Probably could have filled out our limit of three a piece but the women were waiting dinner...just for the record....Firetiger DHJ, 80 behind the boards, 1.8 to 2.2 miles an hour over 28 to 32 feet depth. Marking quite a few fish bunched...feed may finally be coming back on after spawn. Yes there are walleye in Eastern Lake Ontario.

Very nice fish! It look like the Great Lakes will continue to kick out limits of huge 'Eyes. Does the Lake Ontario story parallel Lake Erie's? When did the Walleye population really take off, or has it always been that good?

It has been pretty good for the last few years....guess it started coming back about 20 or so years ago when the fishery up in the Bay of Quinte started coming back...since then it has been coming back strong in the Henderson Harbor, Black River and Chaumont Bay, Cape Vincent areas ...Oswego Harbor....seems to be pretty consistent catches in the last few years....only going by what I hear...just getting into it myself this year, and very little last year after I bought my first Lund. been doing alot of reading...watching and listening all winter....guess it paid off...that and the troll master on my kicker, the precision trolling guide, Garmin Chart recorder...etc....lol....don't tell the wife....I believe that they are catching consistent catches throughout Lake Ontario fisheries. Thw walleye fishery has also coming back in the St. Lawrence River over the past few years....not talked about much..but here rumors of certain people catching them up and down the river as well. Havent had time to explore that area yet. Also, NYS DEC is supposed to start stocking them in the Lake again...they are reviving the old hatcher ponds in Cape Vincent with the help of volunteers...should help to put a few of the smaller fish back in for eating. Again most of this info is from reading and listening...so not sure of the real accuracy but generally I think this pretty much outlines it.
