Member Posts: 86 Location: Fond du Lac, WI | A friend of mine sent me the following: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am looking into buying a hand help GPS. The one I am leaning towards is a Lowrance iFinder H2O (see http://www.lowrance.com/Outdoor/Products/iFINDERH2O.asp ) Any pros/cons to be concerned about? I could buy a chip ( http://www.navionics.com/HotMaps/HMregions.asp ) to put in the iFinder which has 2000 Wisconsin Lakes pre-loaded, which is what I would do. I’m not sure if I need the other mapping software available. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

I put quite a bit of research into the purchase and the Ifinder Pro was the best choice IMO. The only unit that runs Navionics, easy to use, easy to read. The one drawback is that it uses some batteries, however, you can adjust the settings for more fuel efficient operating which slows the unit down somewhat but not to the point that it is a hinderance.

The Classic cards only allow up to a 1/4 mile zoom or in other words, you'd be looking down from 1320 feet. Garmin's FHS allows a zoom of up to 20 feet. Here's the difference when you look at waypoints in relation to your position. U....................................................................X Garmin UX Lowrance With a broad zoom you'll look like you're right on a point when in reality you're a ways out.

Location: Rhinelander | I need to upgrade my handheld soon. GMG, the Garmin is a better unit overall in your opinion? Other than the zoom, what other features and benefits does the Garmin sport VS the Lowrance? How do the two units compare as to price?

Member Posts: 168 | If you are looking for a good hand held, I have the Garmin GPSMAP 76. It is very accurate, has WAAS and many features. I have the fishing Hotspots software programmed in it and it is also accurate. http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap76/ I have found it to be user freindly and If you have used a Garmin before, it pretty much has the same functions. If you have any questions on it, I would be happy to answer them. Chris
