Our goals always is teaching and trying to give our client a great day on the waters, it's about fun, learning and just enjoying the out-of-doors. Today was one of those days, fish were definitely present it was getting them to understand that "biting" command!
Clients Jennifer and Paul Erdman from Marathon, Wisconsin meet us at the Harbor Launch this morning and were ready for a 5 hour fishing trip.
Calming conditions after some heavy west winds from yesterday, air temps. running at around 40' along with surface temps. running at between 46' and 49' again our methods were back to live-bait fishing these Walleye.
Redtail Chubs both being fished on 1/4 ounce to 3/8 ounce Northland Tackle Stand-up and Round heads as well Roach Rigs we headed again south of Gladstone working breaklines near and around Escanaba and the river areas.
Bites this morning were again very light, most times just feeling that "dead-weight" of a fish just being there.
Our catch totaled 5 fish, 3 nice Walleye; smallest 22 inches to the larger fish of being 30 inches plus (this fish after shooting several quick photos was released without a stick measurement, this fish indeed was 10 pounds)
2 northern pike also were picked up ranging from 24 to almost 30 inches, these fish were released at the boatside.
Working hard throughout the day our 5 hour trip was almost an 8 hour trip as I wanted to spend more time with this couple wanting them also to catch some fish as I did.
Some days its just about who gets the bites!!!!! Yes I did catch the fish today but this couple recalled days when either one of them were just catching the fish and the other enjoyed watching the excitement!!!!!
None the less both Paul and Jennifer had a great time and are spending another day on the water tomorrow.
Again it's about fishing and fun!
In talking with several other anglers today trolling bites seemingly were slow as well although a couple others had a pretty good success ratio using both minnow baits (including lead-core and snap-weights and bottom-bouncers and crawler harnesses)
Good luck out there fisherman, be careful you night anglers and seeing you on the water tomorrow,
Here's a photo of our catch along with a great sunrise and sunset photo,
