Location: Lake City MN | Last fall I mounted a Minnkota PD, with AP on the bow of my boat. The first time I tried to use it I found that both of my locators snowed over when I turned the motor on. This is in my jon boat that only has one battery so all electronics are powered by the same battery. I talked to the folks at Minnkota and they sent me a fused piece of wire to run from the negative terminal of the battery to the boat and said that this would fix the problem. The other day I was into my boat dealer and told them what I had done and was informed that this set up would cause pitting in the aluminum where the boat meets the water. Am wondering if any of you guys have had this same problem with motor interference and what your remedies may have been. Thanks.

Are the electronis connected to the same battery as the trolling motor? If so, that is the problem.

Location: Westland, Mich. | i'm no expert , but i think what your dealer said is true. if you put that wire to ground and it cures your problem then you have current leaking to your hull. you shoud treat your boat like a 'vette. each accessory should have it's own hot and ground and each should be connected directly to the battery. that way you don't run current through your hull and it won't become an anode and begin to erode. you need to go through all your accessories with a amp meter and check for the one that is using the hull to complete the circuit. when you find it, insulate that item and you should solve the problem. |

Location: Rhinelander | Another way to eliminate the interference is to use an in line filter. Go to Radio Shack and let them know what you need the filter for. They can get you what you need. The 'noise' is RF interference. |

Location: Milw, WI | You could get a small gell battery to run the locators.
Like for the ice fishing locators.
Should make it as long as a day running them.
You will just have to keep recharging them each night for shure.
Some times simpler is better.

| I'd add another battery...this one dedicated just to the bow mount.
If you continue to have a bowmount and two locaters (and maybe more...lights? livewell?)...all running off just the start battery you better have some oars with you.  You are going to need them |

Location: Rhinelander | Small boat problem, only one battery. I've seen where this guy fishes with this rig, and one more battery will kill the whole deal. Gives the term 'portage' a whole new meaning! |

| I too had the same problem with the screen snowing over when hitting the power to the trolling motor. My Minnkota rep told me to take a piece of rubber, similar to the tupe in a tire. Anyway, I took a piece that was about 4X4 and put it UNDER the transducer right next to the actual motor housing and then tighten the clamp down. I'd say it took about 80 to 90 % of the snow away. Best fix I've found yet. Hutch B.T.W this was a maximum 101 and either a x-15, 19 or 104 depth finder. |

Location: Coatesville, PA | I had the same problem with the PD and front finder. What I had to do was run a separate ground wire from the metal motor housing to the battery ground. I think it might had something to do with the composite shaft. Anyhow you could just run a temp ground from the motor housing to the battery negative and see if that does the trick, if so you will need to drill a small hole in the skeg area and attach a ground wire there for a permanent fix. |
