Location: Lake City MN | Been fishing the Red Wing area pretty heavy as of late and the sauger action has really picked up. After one of the slowest winter bites that I can remember in quite some time it's great to put some decent fish in the boat. Don't get me wrong, these fish are not jumping in the boat but if you cover enough water limits of big saugers can be taken. The fish are holding in there normal late winter areas, mostly in the 25 to 35 foot depths with the better fish in the shallower end of those depths. My best presentation has been a plain twister tail jig combo tipped with a minnow, but on some days you don't need or want the minnow. The daytime walleye bite has been pretty slow but I have talked to guys that have been doing well after dark casting shallow sand flats and points. Look for the walleye bite to really heat up in the very near future with riseing water temps and flows. Good luck to all and please let those bigger females go.
