Location: Gladstone, Michigan 49837 | fishing "solo" this afternoon set out about 1:30 pm. Didn't take long in setting up, air temps. running in the middle 20's and still at the writing of this report the temps. running at 23'.
Light winds, cloudy conditions looking like a good afternoon.
Lot's of anglers out on the ice for this Saturday and touching base with a number of anglers since getting in sounds like both the upper and lower bay had good numbers of fisherman.
Again I set up in water depths running at between 30 and 32 feet of water.
Also talked with a group of fisherman from Merrill, Wisconsin and they were out about mid-morning with miniumal action but had iced 1 real nice Walleye about 22 inches. Good talking with you guys and looking forward to seeing you in the next few weeks.
Marked a good amount of fish from the start and set one tip-up approx. 5 feet off bottom about 10 feet from our portable Frabill unit. Using both jigging Raps and Buckshot Rattle Spoons caught
6 Walleye tonight with one legal fish of 17 inches coming on a tip-up set with a 4 inch shiner. Fished approximately 4 hours tonight.
*********Spent some time this evening also tonight talking with good friend and Michigan DNR Warden, Terry Short.
They were running the Bay today talking with fisherman and said indeed there were a lot of people on the ice!
Asked several questions to him about rules and regulations again.
Biggest issue is ATV's, "all ATV's on the ice, quoting Mr. Short and they must have a ORV sticker!"
These can be purchased throughout the area at bait shops and local gas stations. It's also important as Terry mentioned to being careful and using good judgement while on the ice. Always think about what your doing and being courterous to your fellow anglers!
Enjoy the water's fisherman and we'll be back on the ice tomorrow giving you a report,
Captain Marty Papke
