Member Posts: 240 Location: La Crescent, MN | March 28, 2002 Charlie Moore Named PWT Tournament Director Charlie Moore takes over the In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail(PWT) tournament director's reigns this year. Moving from Pierre, South Dakota to Brainerd, Minnesota, home of the PWT, he brings a wealth of experience to the demanding job. The PWT enters its 14th tour with six Pro-Am qualifying tournaments plus a season-ending Championship. More than $12,000,000 has been awarded to winners. The top pro will collect $50,000 at each tournament ($100,000 at the Championship) this season and the first place amateur tows home a Lund boat and a Mercury outboard on an Eagle trailer. Moore has an intimate knowledge of the professional anglers (he will manage 150 to 170 pros at each site plus an equal number of amateurs) and the competitive challenges they face. His duties of working closely with National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA) members and the board of directors prepared him for the tournament director's position. During his two-year tenure as executive director, 2000--2002, he implemented numerous programs including the "Member's Only" program, wrote and edited newsletters, redesigned the web site, helped pros enhance their collective images, built the NPAA organization's membership and financial stability, communicated directly with fisheries departments and handled sponsorship sales. He said, "I bring a good understanding of the professional fisherman's perspective of the marine and tackle industry to this job." In addition to the NPAA experience, Moore was an instructor at In-Fisherman's Camp Fish for eight summers. He managed a large guide service and fly fishing shop in Arizona for two years. He was sports director of a South Dakota radio station and announced hundreds of sporting events over a five year span. He has appeared in dozens of fishing and hunting TV shows. Moore has also guided for trout, bass, walleyes, pheasants, grouse and waterfowl. He is also a walleye tournament angler and a 9-time winner on the bass tournament trail. PWT executive director Jim Kalkofen said, "It will be exciting working with Charlie. I've known him for many years, worked with him at several PWT Championships, fished with him, and as recently as this past January, presented the "Tournament Story" to the South Dakota statewide warden force." The PWT season begins 2002 with a new record. More pro anglers have applied to fish the tour than ever before in history. Pro anglers will be competing for money, glory and a slot in the PWT Championship. "They will also be fishing under the watchful eye of Charlie Moore, their new tournament director," Kalkofen said. Of course, more pros means more opportunities for amateurs, and openings still exist. Amateurs may call PWT at 218-829-0620 for information or down load entry blanks from the PWT web site, www.in-fisherman.com. The 2002 PWT Schedule: April 17-19; Lake Erie, Port Clinton, Ohio May 8-10; Missouri River & Lake Francis Case, Chamberlain & Oacoma, SD May 22-24; Leech Lake, Walker, Minnesota June 19-21; Lake Winnebago and up-river lakes; Oshkosh, Wisconsin July 10-12; Devils Lake, North Dakota July 31, Aug. 1-2; Saginaw Bay, AuGres, Michigan Sept. 12-14; Mercury Championship & Sport Show, Bismarck, North Dakota

Member Posts: 15 | Congratulations on the new Job Charlie. Up until this year I was a member of the NPAA. We kind of fell on some bad times here last year and when you start looking at family expenses some things have to go. Unfortunately here, my NPAA membership was one of the first. While a member of the the NPAA I had several good discussions with Charlie. He is dedicated to fishing and the advancement of our sport. He will work his tail off to make the PWT the best professional walleye curcuit out there. There is no doubt that he will do an excellent job with the PWT. Charlie, I hope that the new job goes well. I will be at the Leech wiegh in the final day and will introduce myself. I will look forward to meeting you there. Maybe I can spend part of that day fishing with Zach or Steve W. (HINT, HINT) Good Luck.
