Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Was stood up today for a charter, but made the very best of it. I kinda new this kinda thing might happen, since I quit taking deposits for ice trips. I was getting tired of having to mail them back when weather or wind (as it does 50% of the time) has it's own agenda. I waited at the end of Linwood Road till about 9:30 and then decided to go to Franks and head home. But while at Franks, ran into two buds that were headed out themselves and asked me to tag along. Of course they are the ones who ended up tagging along and it worked out for everybody and heres how. After getting settled into our spot, my one bud says he's going to start out using an old favorite jigging rig of mine that was hot about 9 years ago out of Finn Road in 10 FOW. It's a simple all White/Pearl Swedish Pimple, but instead of using a large minnow head on one of the hooks, you put three smaller perch minnows on it. This makes it look like a Squid pulsating away when you jig it. I poo-pooed his idea, and told him Do-Jiggers is where it's at right now man. Well, 10 minutes later he snaps a 26 1/2 incher, and 20 minutes after that a 27 1/2 incher. Off goes Mr. Do-Jigger and one goes the Swedish Squid. Now heres where it gets good. I see what looks like a nice fish come into the hole. I see my minnow on my dead rod start to dance and then that subtle (THUD) and the line starts to move off to the side of the hole. Then out of the blue, my Swedish Squid Jig rod gets a thump. I instinctively set the hook and start the fish up. But my dead rod is now torque almost double in the 6 gallon pale. I have my first ever ice double, and both are very nice fish. Long story short I land both and the picture is included. But it's not over. I land three more fish on the Swedish squid for my limit and loose another, a real monster at the hole when he fools me into thinking he was done, and then pulls the old (turn in the hole) and shoot for the bottom trick and gets away. So we end the day 7 for 8. Attachments ---------------- IM000816.JPG (75KB - 133 downloads) IM000819.JPG (84KB - 152 downloads) IM000821.JPG (74KB - 133 downloads) | ||
