Member Posts: 378 Location: Omro,Wi. | I spoke with Ted Gephart today,he is an instrutor for the Captains License Course. He mentioned that if we could get five people together for the course,he would come to the area, and give it.The cost is $385.00, ove three days. This would be the Limited Scope License,(Inland Master) and would allow guiding on the Winnebago System, and state waters excluding the great lakes. We will stil need the other required forms,to complete the license requirements, they are on the link,at the end. This would be the 100 ton or less oupv license. All forms can be obtained by mail, from the Coast Guard Regional Examination Center in Toledo,Ohio (419)418-6010. Ask for the first time oupv packet. If interested please post,so we can get things rolling. http://home.teleport.com/~forsberg/master.html http://www.uscg.mil/stcw/home.htm... Member Posts: 378 Location: Omro,Wi. | I have sent a e-mail requesting some open dates,in March and April.I've also received my forms from the Coast Guard, for license requirements, seem pretty straight forward, and not complicated.Basic items needed are: the class, physical, drug test, vision test, fingerprinting, cpr course, and fill out time on water form. I exspect the total costs to be $600.00. Not to bad cosidering everything involved.I've also included the link,I forgot on the original post(sorry),any more questions?

Member Posts: 538 | Hafe and all, You might be able to do it in three days but I really like the 8 day(including testing) day intense course that I took from World Wide Marine Training. You can get info at their website wegivethetest.com In our situation, Capt Bob Townsend was able to get the fingerprinting done, have coast guard personel swear us in, and get our CPR and First Aid all done on site. We were drilled and redrilled in many areas. It was extensive and always interesting. When we were done with the course study, WWMT was able to test and and pass/fail us on site. No need to go to Coast Guard office to test. I enjoyed the course and learned quite a bit of usable information. It was a long 8 days, but well worth the result. Take care, Jim O

Member Posts: 378 Location: Omro,Wi. | Hi Jim I will agree that the 8-day course is much more informative, and there is some advantages. However I don't need to guide on the great lakes, the fingerprints can be done at any police station, cpr courses are readily availabe, the swearing in can be done in Milwaukee,or Sturgeonbay. We need to mail in the test results, with the other forms.I'm not now,or have I ever been in favore of having the licence. The cost is the biggest thing for me,6-days in a motel, plus the added expence,is not feasable.Guiding is the Only income I have, and last years money is running out.I need to get this done as cheap and readily,as possible. Member Posts: 538 | Hafe, I see what you mean. I took the course because I wanted to be a more knowledgable boater and maybe using it guiding at some future date. Fortunately they have them in Milwaukee and it was just a drive for me. If it were not for the pounding and understanding of the instructor, I likely would have not obsorbed what I needed through my thick skull. Licenses have been acquired through many means, and the particular one I utilized suited me well. Best of luck in whatever endeavor you choose. I must say that my US Merchant Marine Officer certificate looks mighty good on the wall! It was a very worthwhile experience for me. Take care, Jim O
