Dick "Hack" Hackbarth is lost his battle with Cancer. Anyone who has ever fished a PWT, FLW, Merc Natl., or an FLW League event lost a great friend.

Hack was the man behind the scenes, always willing share his knowledge and did it in a way not to make you feel like you were imposing and should not have asked your question.

He's been a friend to all the tournament anglers for many years, and a better friend you could not find!!

He is always there with a smile and words of encouragement when tournaments not going the way you planned and he is always the first one to shake your hand, or slap you on the back, when your tournament is going the way you planned.

He never told anyone of his burden...that's the kind of man Hack was...strong and quiet.

Hack had been diagnosed with Cancer several years ago. He still wanted to be with all his friends at the tournaments. He lived for them and if tried to tell him to slow down he in his own way said it was alright and he could do the task.

I wish I could THANK Hack one more time for all the knowledge and experiences he shared with me over the years.

Someone will have a BIG pair of shoes to fill trying to take over his duties in the future

Please find it in your hearts, to take a moment to remember Hack and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks

Jim Coon

My thoughts and prayers are with Dick's family. Dennis Skurulsky (sunshine) sends his regards also. He is away pre-fishing for a tourney this weekend and doesn't have internet access.

He was the man you always saw each event. plus no matter what he had a smile always on his face.

Here is a prayer I have prayed for years and I feel it fits Dick well. my prayers to his family and to Lord that he welcome a soul like no other to the world I wish to join some day. Dick was a speacial one and man that will be missed.

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day... and when it comes to my last cast, Then I most humbly pray... When in the Lords's great landing net and peacefully asleep... That in his mercy. I be judged big enough to KEEP

We agree with all of the above. Hack was a great guy. I enjoyed working with him in WFT. He truly cared about our fisheries and their future. Your smile will truly be missed.

Oh my, our friend Hack is gone. This is a sad day indeed. Just the other day I thought about Hack as I answered a post on The Next Bite about fizzing needles. At every PWT tournament Hack would be there with a box of needles and give us each 2 or 3 of them in case we didn't have any. That's the kind of guy he was. What a wonderful man. The last time we saw him was at the Mercury Nationals in 2004. When we asked how he was doing he just shrugged his shoulders and said OK. That big smile will stay with us forever, and we know that others will remember it too.
We'll miss you Hack.

Couldn't have said it better myself Jim...

Hack's funeral is on Monday. I don't have the details yet, but will post them as soon as I receive them.

May he rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Hackbarth family. He will be missed by all and it won't be the same not seeing him at future tournaments. May he and all the other great fishermen that have gone before him get a chance to wet a line in a much better place, I hope they save me a spot when it is time to join them.

I wonder if there is a way at some website we could all just say our condolences and get that to his family... I am sure they would like to know how well liked and respected he was among his friends.

He will be missed by all of his many friends in the Walleye world. You could not find a nicer guy or a bigger gentleman.

Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends.

Hack and his family and friends will be in our prayers here. It is always sad to hear or see a friend go. Rare is the person who can always smile and never burden anyone else, Hack was one of those.

You will be missed by the many people you touched Hack.

Hack's family has asked that you sign in on the guest book to help his mother and father deal with the grieving of their lost son. Hack's dad gets up every morning and logs on just to see what has been written. You can also view the video memorial of Hack's life and his photography. This memorial will stay in place for 90 days. Thank you all for remembering a great man and fellow angler! This industry has suffered a great loss in the passing of "Hack" Richard Hackbarth.

Thank you for your thoughts, kind words and prayers. We just want you to know that a framed version of your prayer has been in the family for years and has been hanging above Hack's desk since we can remember. We also agree it fits his life to a T. We miss him greatly as well. Messages to his parents can be posted at ueckerwitt.com in the guestbook. They have learned to use Hack's computer and find much comfort in reading these messages. We were all blessed to have him in our lives. We are finding he touched more than we could have ever thought. Know that he is by your sides fishing as well.
