Member Posts: 340 Location: McFarland, WI | I busted a leaf spring on my dual axle trailer this past saturday so I had to replace a 3 leaf spring with a 4 leaf spring from Fleet Farm. Is there any problem with having different springs on an axle or between axles. Replacing one was a task with the boat on the trailer. Thank god for grinder/cutters. Larry Strelow McFarland, WI

Location: Rhinelander | Shouldn't be a problem at all. The suspension might be a little stiffer on that side, but there's nothing that would hurt that I'm aware of.

| If it changes your ride height on one side of the trailer, then it would also change the camber of the wheels and could result in accelerated tire wear. | |||

Member Posts: 340 Location: McFarland, WI | Thanks for the reponses. Ride height appears the same but I will watch tire wear. The steel in the 3 leaf spring seem a little thicker, but for symetry sake I may replace the other side in the off season. Then I'll have my spare leaf spring. (Dennis can add this to his list) The trailer was painted after the leaf springs were installed so none of the nuts break loose. Using a nut splitter and cutting the u-bolts were the only way to remove the spring, therefore I'm not eager to change the opposite side. Larry Strelow McFarland, WI
