I took the class for 1/3 of that price. I am licensed for 100 ton vessel, with no more than 6 passengers. No reason to get the six-pack license if you are just going to guide on Bago or other inland federal waters. My class lasted for a total of 48 classroom hours, and was very well taught. reply back if you want the link for the captain who gave the class, and licensed me. It is honored by the US Coast guard and very well taught.

The class Dave is orginizing is a full six-pack license, which would allow one to guide on the great lakes. hence the added time and cost.

Axl, by the sounds of it, the class Dave is talking about is also 48 hrs. of class time. But they will get the license, for a few bucks more the first time around, to guide on the great lakes as well.

the website to the operator of uninspected Passenger vessel Limited Scope License is:
www.explorersguidellc.com

This is the limited license and not the full six-pack, hence the difference in cost. i only wanted the limited for Bago system, so make sure you know what you are getting before you book the class.
