After recieving my "break" a number of years ago by helping out Dan Small with an over night article for Wisconsin Outdoor News, I have been working hard to learn and improve as a writer AND to get published. Dan has been a mentor to me as was Mike Jackson who sponsored me in to the Assoeciation of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers. This help and a better feel for the "pen" has created some new opportunities for which I am very fortunate. STILL, making any significant money is very tough. Yet I do it for the love of being published as it was always a part of my "dream" to be an "outdoor writer". Well an early Christmas present just arrived in the mail. I have just received a "Readers Choice Award" from Midwest Outdoors Magazine. I guess the readers selected me as one of their favorite writers. I was stunned and am very thankfull. If anyone from this board was amoung those who voted for me I wish to say thank you very much. This has been a ray of sunshine at a time when I could really use it.

I remember my excitment when I got my first modest check from "Salmon Trout Steelheader" Magazine in 1984, for the very first article I sent them. I've had many others make print after that, but it was that first one that gave me the confidence to keep it up. Many people experience all the feelings about the fishing sports, and learn all the techniques and particulars that go along with it. But few can teach and put down into words all the moods, feelings and the elements that share the true experience of the sport, and put the reader right in the fighting chair. Keep em coming. ![]() Edited by walleye express 12/3/2005 11:19 PM

Thanks! Just got my December issue and found that I was one of eleven Wisconsin winers. I am proud to be mentioned with Art Anderson, Gary Engberg, Syd Herman, Ted Jarosh, Gary Martin, Judy Nugent, Jim Solberg,Mark Walters, Marc Wisniewski and Mike Yurk. Probably was declared a "winner" because I got more then three votes ![]()
