Member Posts: 1406 | I have 1 and it catches fish but.......I just can't depend on a bait that cost's more than a Friday night fish fry! There I know I'll get satisfied! Good Luck with it but I'll stick to my Nitros at that price, you guys can push 'em till your blue in the face, I think they may be more attractive to the collectors vs. the fishermen! Good Luck Tyee

Member Posts: 88 Location: Oklahoma | Yes, the Balsa KA-BOOM! lures RUFF GUY and Goodie Minnow are higher priced than my plastic lures; the KA-BOOM! Shiner (used to be called the NITRO Shiner), and the Winning Streak and Mean Streak!, correct. The Balsa KA-BOOM! lures are a premium-quality balsa wood bait, and are a good investment, as they will produce and last for generations, just as my dad's lures have proven to do over the last 40 years! ;) Edited by streakfreak 5/20/2006 11:13 PM

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Come on Rog, We all know how cheap you are Just remember the old fishing proverb: Buy a friday night fish fry and you have fish for a day. Buy a few KABOOM Ruff guys and you have fish for a lifetime. It's time that we get back in the boat together. What are you doing over the memorial day weekend? I'll show you first hand, how well these lures work on the upper Bago lakes.

New User Posts: 3 | I've been very happy with Dave's baits over the last three seasons. The deep shiners are great on Bay de Noc, and the shallow shiners are perfect for the early shallow water bite this time of year. Winning Streaks have a proven track record, and I can't wait to hit Devil's Lake with my new Ruff Guys. I've got one shallow shiner that still has a little bit of it's original gold paint on it, but teeth have scraped away most of it. I'd guess that the cost of that bait is down to about 5 cents per fish, that doesn't seem too expensive to me!

That's why Gas prices are so infuriating. Its something you have to have to live, and the sellers know it. They really don't care what you think of the price, because you'll pay it or walk. But if I buy an expensive lure and it catches fish, I'm afraid I'm just going to have to bite the bullet, buy what I think will be the best colors for my use, and carry on. As this lure will give me what 2 gallons of Gas at the same price cannot. Satisfaction that its my own decision to pay that much, satisfaction that lasts longer then 28 miles in my truck and (way less than that in my boats), and a modest re-sale value if I decide to sell it. Member Posts: 1406 | OK OK, I deserve that one but you know I'm the first to admit it aren't I. Dave, my comments are a reflection of my days as a simple fisherman and are the same when I wouldn't pay $4.00 for a yo-zuri. Now after many more years of collecting cranks, I still find it difficult to justify $8.49 for a crank bait (for recreation) when that will put 3 gallons of gas in my boat! That is definately not the case for tournament fishermen as they my need an "advantage" bait sometimes. It definately is a quality bait for sure but until you convince the industry to market baits like Mary Kay sells make-up, (now thats a marketing plan I would love to do with cranks), I can't see how your margins on this product are going to continue to support it, I would rather see you become more profitable and market products to the average Joe like me as you do some fine work! I like it, and I'll buy more, because I'm addicted not because a pro recomends it. But to run 6 when the bite is on is never going to happen for me. Sorry Dennis I'll be on the upper lakes this weekend trying to get a pic of a quality fish with a Ruff Guy in it's mouth and on Memorial Day I'll be pounding the pannies on small inland lakes! Maybe next time? Good Luck Tyee Edited by tyee 5/18/2006 9:32 AM

Franks have the Ruff Guys for $7.99 and you must be buying the Yo-Zuris in the smallest versions. I've never seen one under $6.00. Edited by walleye express 5/18/2006 9:42 AM

Member Posts: 885 | I second that thought.... It’s too easy to have a pro endorse a bait when they get them free or at a reduced price and are getting money from a sponsor. Send me six of the new Ruff Guy's in every color and size. Then maybe the average guy will be willing to invest the extra cash it costs if they hear it from an average guy like me that spends 30-40 days on the water for fun!!! As a recreational guy, I'm not afraid to spend $30,000 on my boat or $200 bucks on a nice line counter combo, or buy 8 of every color of Shad rap in 5's & 7's as well as 8 of every color deep husky jerk, regular huskies, countdowns. I honestly tried the deep diving Kabooms last year on the bay and Bay de noc, but I kept catching fish on the Smithwick Roges and Huskys. As long as I'm consistently putting a limit of Walleyes in the boat on Rapala Lures, I just don't see the need to spend $9.00 on a single lure. I've caught a lot of fish in the past on your lures.... but count me out for a $9.00 lure that I need 8 in every color. I did just pickup another 30 of the Deep Shiners and will give them another try this summer. I love to fish and am always willing to spend the money... but for my style of trolling, I'll stick with the cheaper baits. Purple Skeeter

I tend to agree (in part) with what you said as far as Sponsored indorsements go. As these Pro's (in-Part) work for each endorser, to help defrey part of their Pro fishing expense. You don't talk trash or cast dispersions about a company paying part of your entry fee or gives you use of their products for free. And I can only speak for myself on the Pro-staffer side of things, as I am not privy to anybody else's deals or discounts as it pertains to their own (Pro Staffers) agreements that any of them have with these same companies I Pro Staff for. But I get nothing but new product samples for free. In fact, when I was getting free lures at one point from a popular lure company a few years ago, my views, rules and personal limitations were the same. My verbal agreements with them has always been to One, rave and spread the word (in all my capacities) when their product works and catches fish. Two, give/report fair criticisms and critique their products when I see the need. And three, be able to write about or talk fairly, freely and unbiasedly about other companies products, even if it is competing directly with the (Pro-staff) products I use. Seasoned fishermen are to smart for the most part, and new arrivals learn quickly who's doing it for the money/discount, or who is truly giving some useful information about that certain product to help everyone catch more fish. If this stance is not agreeable to them, I'd just as soon not be a Pro-Staffer for them. Because the bottom line for me is much like yours. If the lure works, no matter what the brand name (or cost), I want it in my tackle box. If it does not, it does not take up space in there long. It's simply a double blessing when I'm on that successful lure companies Pro-staff. PS. Skeeter, I hope those Wiggle Fin Discs you bought and (I Pro-Staff for), catch you some fish this summer. | I'm looking forward to my new Kaboom Shiners. I just got some perfect patterns and Tom's "perfect for shallow water bite" comment has me psyched. Going to test them head to head with a couple of scarred up old standards (made by Dave's Dad) all next week. I'm looking forward to some little bigger baits in the fuure and trying some of the balsa baits too.

Member Posts: 88 Location: Oklahoma | I agree, spending $8.00-$9.00 per bait is not for everyone. But, after 3 minutes of running your $9.00 worth of gas in your boat, you may have nothing to show for your money. At least when you purchase a productive fishing lure such as mine or a Rapala or a Storm or Smithwick or ReefRunner, whatever it may be, you can use it for 3 decades (or MORE!). Which gives you more fishing pleasure and is a better investment?! When your money runs out from spending it all on gas, you can still fish with your lures that you purchased!
