The walleye are biting pretty good for the most part. Some time you have to pick through some smaller fish, but there sure are some dandies around. I've heard about pockets of good fishing from Fremont to New London. Been catching some females too, bonus photo fish, but "keepers" have been more in the 15ish range, with a few bigger fish. Releasing a few year classes of smaller fish, but so far, no yearlings. Crawlers still working from what I've over heard, but I have been using shiners. Smallmouth bass activity has slowed, but some anglers are still catching and releasing some hard fighting fish, including some over 3 pounds. That's not trophy class but a great tug on the line. They are stacking up too. A trusted report was, "If you find one, you'll catch 3 or 4 more in the same spot." Northern Pike fishing has slowed. Crappie fishing is slow and mostly smallleer fish with a few keepers mixed in. Keepers have been in the smaller range of what is usually kept on the system from what I have witnessed. Water temp getting back to around 48 after dropping to around 44 degrees, and the level is rising to near average flow for this time of year. We'll see what Mother Nature has in store for us, but so far we have a nice start to some fall walleye fishing.

Re: Red Banks, just a little over 4 pounds took first. Jigging with minnows and have heard of pockets of fish from near the Rat River, from Fremont and everywhere in between, all the way to New London. I've been fishing from just above Gills, all the way to New London and caught fish. Fishing had been excellent, but have been having to work for them harder the last few days. I have found fish on transitions starting at around 11 feet, on some long outside bends that have anywhere from 14 to 22 feet and in a few deep holes. Good Luck

Take the time to look for fish on your electronics and don't over look the adjacent water around anything deep, even if it's not very big and you might find a group of exceptional fish. A well placed angler friend caught some NICE fish yesterday as I watched and fiddled with smaller, light biting fish even as I got close enough to be passed some venison sausage. Sometimes it's the spot on the spot. Have fun

Hey, thanks doc, tried your advise and ended up with 20, had to sort through the smaller stuff like you said, but still fun.
