Okay here we go with some great info on hot spots. If you fish tournaments or for just plain pleasure this info is for you.The more places I can share with you in exchange for the same amount of places you share with me only increases our knowledge of this system.I believe if we all share knowledge with each other it will benifit all of us.This is smart not dumb.Just think about it for a second. Its like a chain letter except we all reep the rewards instead of the person on the top line.No matter how many places you fish catching only big fish is usually in an area that you won't mark or catch a lot of fish because they live different than the 16 to 18 inch fish. You can have a hot spot today and when tournament time comes your spot is dead, what do you do.Thats right rely on spot number two or three etc.The more places you can fish the better your chances will be in the long run.I fished walleye weekend two years ago my son and I caught 49 walleyes in the two days and only registered 6 for the tournament.Everything we did was working except putting big fish in the livewell. The reason for this is that the big fish moved in a week later.Thats why even fishing this system for over 50 years doesn't mean you have an edge on anyone, just a good place to fish.Thats why we all have to share goog techniques and places to fish with each other to better our odds and to gather more valuable information about this big system.I don't guide anymore but I'll take you fishing if you take me fishing.Together we learn because we're sharing knowledge. superdav

Last year while prefishing for the RCL, I found 2 very small spots near sunset point in Lake Butte Des Morts. If you start at the point and follow the shoreline north staying 20 - 30 feet from the shoreline, you will find a 1 foot ledge in 5 feet of water. This is about 100 - 150 feet from the point.

When the wind was from the south the walleyes were sitting right along the ledge last spring.

Then if you continue north from there, angle slightly away from the shoreline and there is a small rock pile that separates the rocky southern bottom from the northern mud bottom. Caught quite a few walleyes there too.

Amaziingly, the point always had alot of fisherman on it, but I as always alone!

Iam a weekend warrior.I mostly fish from wents 2 just south of garlic island.I useally troll the reefs, this seems 2 get me more quanity than qualty, as I dont get many fish over 20".I seam 2 do better banging bottom with a crank bait.I just have it hit then lift rod 2 try and stay right at or as close 2 bottom as I can.I dont hit bottom all the time as line gets cut from zebera musseles.after each pass I will check line and retie because of nicks.plus I dont fish yesterdays memories, 1 day there at my 1st or 2nd spot the next 7th or 8th.Iam trying 2 learn the river now but I havent 2 well yet, maybe this year.hope this helps.

Location: Rhinelander
Does anyone fish the dozens of little shallow rock piles on the east shore early in the year? I was out there a couple years ago, trolling in 5' of water. Everytime we crossed one of those, we popped a fish, but I couldn't get the guy I was fishing with to stop and jig them. These are about 50' across, and about the same from 4' to the primary break.

Yep, think I have 30 - 40 waypoints from the east side plugged into my GPS.

But these rock humps have changed dramaticlly since the clear water; caused by zebra mussels. The walleyes are not there during the warm calm days like they used to be. And normally if you can see the bottom you won't catch any walleyes.

But the walleyes have been replaced by the smallies. And I am talking alot of smallies. Hauling in 20 a trip is very realistic, with about 50 sheephead thrown in to boot!

However, with some luck you can also get a few walleyes mixed in and maybe even a jumbo perch. I was even surprised to catch a half-dozen large gills one day last summer.

Without anyone asking I'll offer this advice on the east side reefs - Jig them only on dark, cloudy days and specially if there is enough wind to produce small choppy waves. Never fall in love with a hump, if you don't get a walleye in 30 minutes, move to the next one.

And start anywhere you want, there are so many it would take fishing every day the whole season to find them all. But one thing I have noticed, some of the spots are real sheephead magnets and normally its to much bother to weed through them in getting the walleyes. So don't punch those co-ordinates into your gps!

And my baits of choice is an orange 1/16 ounce jig tipped with a halfcrawler, and a slip bobber rig using a jig and a leach.
