Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | We took a ride to the new Cabela's in Richfield yesterday. Kind of disappointing. The fishing dept. was really under stocked. Small spool of Crystal Fireline? Nope, we're out of it. Size 4 or 6 red hooks? Nope, only 2's and 8's. The list goes on and on. It's a nice store but.... it's the 6th different Cabela's that I've been to and I would give it the lowest rating. I hope they improve and I think they will. On the bright side they lived up to their reputation for great customer service. I had a pair of Guidewear bibs that leaked for a few years. These were older bibs but despite re-waterproofing would still leak. They gave me a BRAND NEW PAIR!! I expected a small discount or something but a FREE replacement was really cool.

Dale, I second your comments. Any Gander Mountain or Sportsmans Lodge store would put them to shame. It's very high priced, nothing is ever on sale and they don't stock items that the average fisherman in Wisconsin would use. Their bargin cave has boots and shoes that you can see are clearly something a customer returned after wearing them for 5 years and they are trying to sell them for $95.00 when they really should be thrown in the trash. Rather than just sit back and complain, I called the National Headquarters and spoke with the top person in customer service and shared my thoughts about our area having great outdoor stores that are in touch with the local fisherman and their needs. I told them in a nice way that I would not see any reason to return myself or recommend the store to anyone else. Even the clothes are overpriced and you can buy the same thing at several stores for much less. I was very disappointed and will not return. I just can't figure out how a store like that can be so far off the mark. I've talked to the guys in the fishing department and asked them how they feel and the couple of guys I spoke with shared the same view. Because I drive by there several time a week, I have asked them when they are going to replenish their stock of Walleye stuff like Rippers, Smithwicks, Bombers, and just about every other Walleye bait that they should have 10 deep in inventory, the answer I got, "we don't know that". You can clearly see that the store is trying to focus on tourist items and high priced clothes. In my opinion, it's not a very good source for fishing stuff. A good example of customer service would be Sportsman's in Depere. Last year they had several requests for more crawler harness items. they now have just about every component in every color from beads to blades to pro packs of hooks and clevises. I've ordered special items and they are very good in getting hard to find stuff.

I go to the store in PDC all the time and it is awesome. Maybe the Richfield store is just not fully stocked yet being that it's new? After all I bet that Cabelas doesn't have empty shelves on purpose. Sometimes it takes a while for these stores to "ramp up".

Member Posts: 3899 | I've been to the store in Richfield a couple times. Last trip back from Milwaukee, I was looking to buy a VHF and antenna for the boat. They showed two radio's, and several antenna's in stock. Salesman went to go fetch. I waited nearly an hour, and he said he couldn't find either. Just as well, I found them in stock on the internet and saved over $50. Free Shipping, and I had them a couple days later. I love the mounts, the cafe has great sammies. I think it's mostly a clothes store. Fishing and Marine Depts are lacking depth and stock. I haven't spent any time in the hunting section. Edited by Shep 3/26/2007 8:17 AM

Thats Just to bad that U had a bad experience because that place is way bigger than anyother store in the area. I spend alot of time there and spend alot of money. They always take care of me and if the are out of stock on an item that they carry the order it for me. The fishing department itsself is slowly getting more common items. The place is huge and frankly if they would carry everything they would be bigger than the Mall of America which is pretty darn big. Just my two cents. One bad experience shouldnt turn you away!!! Thanks

I've also been to the Cabelas Store and I agree with everyone else. No 3000 yd spools of 10# XT, no large spools of 14/6 Fireline, out of SG17 Sealine reels, no telescopic rods in stock, no ram mount antennas in stock, out of keel weights, poor selection of harness materials. Missing or holes in crankbait inventory (big holes of popular baits). Nice place to visit if you want to buy clothes or look at the mounts or you need to buy presents.
