Member Posts: 885 | http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=596476 Great post on the Milwaukee Sentinel today showing a IMAX film crew at the spring spawn at the Shawano Dam on the Wolf River. I have never gone to the watch the Sturgeon spawn, but the film shows just how amazing feat this is. It is mentioned that the fish have been doing this for 1000's of years. I did not realize that they were in such an unprotected state when they spawn. It's great that all those dedicated individuals donate their time to protect this incredible resource. I'm going next year to see if I can retrieve a few of my #5 Shad raps!! Purple Skeeter

Member Posts: 192 | PS, Let me know if you find a couple #5 Blue Glass Shad Raps. I lost a few off of Garlic Island last year. I believe the count is up to four. When I was younger, my parents used to take me up to the Eureka Dam on the Fox to watch them go up the fish ladder or try and jump over the dam. It was pretty cool to see. I'm not sure if they do it anymore. Mark Edited by Mark O. 4/26/2007 10:22 AM

Member Posts: 885 | Mark, That must be a favorite area for Sturgeon... Over the last 2 years I have hooked more Sturgeon off Garlic Island than any other spott on Bago. I can't remember exactly when, but there is a 2 week period that I will hook one every hour I'm long-linning the reefs. I've personally named many of those fish over the years... although I can't mention the names here!! Purple Skeeter

Member Posts: 885 | Dennis, I'm off all next week.... and I'll be in the boat every day. I hope if our business stays calm for a week... so I can get out. I'm not even sure where I'm going to start... Poygan?, Bago?, University Bay?, Any suggestions from the tournament guys would be greatly appreciated.... jk Oh and Cabelas has there shad raps and little ripper look-a-likes on sale in Richfield for $1.99. The Little Rippers look like they were manufactured by Reef Runner they are so close in design. They had a coupon for $30 off a $100 purshase so I go 50 baits for $70... I'm a sucker for this stuff. The Shad Raps Look-a-likes are offered in some very interesting patterns and colors. If I ran each Shad Rap, Flicker Shad and Cabelas bait for 5 minutes each this summer... I would still need to spend an entire year on the water before I would get them all wet. And does not include all the hot and tots and so on. Dominic

For now, it looks like there are a heck of a lot options out there. Fish are being caught in a lot of different places using various techniques.
