Location: Gladstone, Michigan 49837 | "May 14th. The Day before the Opener! Good Luck,"
South winds this morning at 15 to 20 mph. and partly cloudy/sunny skies after an over night rain with thunderstorms dropping at least an 1/2 inch of rain.
Water temps. reaching into the low to mid 50' these past few days.
Everyone is getting geared up for the opener which will begin at
12:01 AM, May 15th.
Again some good fishing tackle tips:
1)crawler harnesses (suggestions: I-33, I-42, I-62 and a floater rig P-76-H which this perch colored floater with blade did real well early season last year Walleye's Choice Tackle, some of the best on the Bay waters. http://www.walleyeschoice.com CHECK OUT OUR ON-LINE CATALOG FOR ORDERING THIS TACKLE.)
2)plain hook or floater jighead using an egg sinker fished slowly along the bottom.
3)one of my favorites; casting a leadhead jig (1/8 to 1/4 ounce in chartruese, red or orange.
USING LIVE BAIT AND THE BOAT SHOULD HAVE CRAWLERS, LEECHES AND MINNOWS. ON HARNESSES USING A WHOLE CRAWLER, JIGS A 1/2 CRAWLER AND WITH MINNOWS NOSE HOOKING THEM WORKS BEST BOTH ON JIGS AND PLAIN HOOKS.
4)the final method and casting a minnow bait into and on the shallow reefs and new weeds coming up.
Fishing methods and mostly using drifting or controlled fishing using your electric motors works, dropping a drift bag will keep the boat straight and slowing your down.
You can also slow troll using planer boards and harnesses to taking fish.
Areas to starting your first trip on the water and concentrating on the river mouths and flats of the north end of the Bay.
In the past week or so fish also are being caught along the breaklines working their ways from the spawning areas southward and settling into their feeding patterns (Post-spawn into Pre-summer where fish will start schooling more) with this warming weather.
Best fishing times and for sure early mornings and evenings,
but I'm sure throughout the day these upcoming days should prove a good bite.
GOOD LUCK FISHERMAN AND SEEING YOU ON THE WATER TOMORROW!!!!
