So I got a guy that's interested in buying my boat. Says he found my boat on WF. I also know this same guy has proposed to buy another boat from a guy I know. And also found his boat on WF.

It's a fishy story that I've once heard before.

Sellers beware, WF boat classifieds are being "combed".

I don't understand what is wrong? Sounds like the guy is shopping around for
the best boat for his needs and budget.
What is missing?

working in the marine business we get approached for this all the time. As Jayman said do not fall for it. They will send you money and you will pay the freight or send them cash or 1 of many tricks. It is OK to talk about these things as these are the scams that are arising.

Guys I just found a buyer for my boat, told him that I needed a cashiers check for the full amount, he was fine with that. Are there any dos or don'ts I need to know about. This is the first boat I've ever sold.

md22, the only check that u will take 4 your boat is spelled CASH!. anything else u might get burned.hope this helps.if he can't come up with cash, there is no cash behind that check.

He (the buyer) can, through his bank, arrange a wire transfer to himself and you at your bank... Very easy, and very safe... talk to someone at your bank... DFor a small fee you will be absolutely 100% covered and the buyer won't have to be worried about carrying around a ton of cash (not safe for him)... Everybody wins...

Here's the scam, the guy wants to send a cashiers check, Yep sounds good so far. But he'll send a cashiers check for more than the boat amount. He'll convienently be on vacation when he wants the boat and will send some person/company to inspect the boat and pick it up at which time, you'll give the reamaining balance to the inspection person. They leave with your money and your boat and you get hosed with a phoney cashiers check.

BTW, this guy is going by the name of Frank Drachman, any other offers out there by the same guy? I know he's accepted offers on 2 boats this week already.

I would really like to see fraud enforcement folks take care of this stuff, but I guess it's so rampant it's almost impossible. Do what I did, get his check, play the guy if it doesn't cash ( call the bank that supposedly issued the check), make him think it's going to happen, and then drop us his email so we can all let him know just what a schmoo he really is.

It's a version of the Nigerian Bank scam. We see it all the time in the auto/truck business. Tell him you will release the boat when the bank clears your bank, aprox 7 to 10 business days. He will vanish like a fart in the wind.

I've got the 04 Skeeter ZX 2050 listed in the classifieds. I've been playing along with a guy ([email protected]) His personal info doesn't check out, he wants me to set on a casher's ckeck till 6-11 when he suposedly returns from vacation. I called the place he claims to work, they've never heard of him. The white pages for that area don't show anybody with his last name in the entire area. My banker and cop buddys suggest he might be doing business from South Africa. . . . . JUST A HEADS UP- - - - - jerr
